In the Montana class C playoffs the team from Superior, Montana (3rd seed) will travel to 1st seed Wibaux on Saturday. This trip is 648.3 miles and will take approx. 9 hours to make. Superior is West of Missoula near the Idaho boarder and Wibaux is about a foot away from being in North Dakota..How about that trip for a state championship? xeekx

Sorry, being from Delaware, the best I could come up with was Wilmington Friends at Milford this Friday in the D-2 playoffs, roughly 50 miles.xlolx

But seriously, do they have airports in Montana? Or a train at least?

Florida cuts out the long travel by doing regional matchups. The most you'd have to travel is 2 or 3 hours. The Finals are played in Orlando which is basically the midpoint between north and south.

Good point. I wonder if MT's HS sports entity could make an exception to move this game to a neutral locale?

It would be a good idea, no kid should have to travel that far for a high school game.

The furthest I went for a highschool football game was @200 miles to Nasemond Suffock in Suffock, VA. We stayed the night the night before.

They were supposed to be really good, but they got the PG County beat down that year!

I'm sure I've said this many times but kids here in Hillsborough County could possibly play until the regional finals before leaving the county. Here's an example (http://fhsaa.org/fb/2008/brak5.htm).

NY does regionals also and plays the championships game at the Carrier Dome which is in the middle of the state for most people.

Changing the location would be a great idea and one which should be considered. The only passenger train is Amtrak's Empire Builder which runs the Hi_line. The team would have to bus north to catch the train and then south to get to Wibaux.

You'll get those long road trips with the smaller schools. There's an 8 man team here in Greeley, which is about 45 miles south of Cheyenne, that lost a coin toss to host their state quarterfinal. The way the brackets came out, their two potential opponents were in far southeastern Colorado, near the Oklahoma panhandle or far southwestern Colorado in the four Corners region. Luckily, they ended up with the shorter trip and came home with a win.

you said the distance is 648 miles and it will take 9 hours... that is some pretty fast bus driving... my calculations put that at an average non stop speed of 72 mph!!!... assuming any team would have to stop for a minimum 3 stops of 20 minutes each that is an extra hour which brings the average speed while moving to 81 mph!!!!!! good lord!!!! that is some rapid transit if I have ever seen it!!! xeekx

Uhh...this is small town high school football. Something tells me flying the football team doesn't exactly work out with the school district's budget. xpeacex

A lot of people still have the 'reasonable and prudent' mentality. I often get passed while doing 80+ on the interstate.

If it is day time and you are not near a city most cops will not stop you unless you are driving recklessly or going over a 100. If they do stop you and you are speeding, 75 is the limit, they will either give you a warning or have you pay a fine of x dollars on the spot. A friend got a fine coming over from Bozo 3 weeks ago, his fine was 45 bucks.

Just for a comparison Armwood (the best team in Tampa) will have to travel 400 miles to win a state title. (that's taking into account the longest trips possible.)

Superior made the trip a couple years ago too. I think they only went about half way then stayed the night. No way should this game be moved Wibaux earned the right to host the game & it will be a nice little boost to their economy.
