Dam just got done watching Florida spank another SEC team and they were talking about next weeks game against The Citadel. What is The Citadel doing scheduling a game against Florida so late in the season? If Forida is whipping the likes of LSU, Georgia, Miami, etc. I can't imagine how bad their gonna destroy The Citadel. Not hating on The Citadel but my goodness.

That's what happens when you have to sell your soul to get stadium renovations complete. Citadel deserves what's coming to them.

They are holding open tryouts for the role of "rudy". Apparently they invited everyone from WCU's team and UTC's team to compete against the Chess club for the spot.

But you never know..they did put up a fight against Wisconsin last year when they were ranked #7 in the nation. Stranger things have happened....I mean App lost to UTC and WCU in 04 and still had a winning season

We've been playing FCS teams since long before the stadium renovations were on the table.

If you never play them, then you NEVER have a chance to beat them.

Urban Meyer told Higgin's son(who worked one of Florida's camps last summer) that He was going to "hang a 100 on The Citadel". I hate to say this but I think they can.

Our guys do not come close to matching up with Florida, but they are still looking forward to the experience. Season over win or lose so just have fun. Take the pay check and improve the program.

I believe you will see only one FBS school on the schedule next year (UNC) and look for us to bring in a non-socon FCS team into charleston. We already have games at UNC and at Princeton with the normal socon slate. Is VMI on the schedule or in the works?

Even the best FCS team should not be scheduling Florida. This will be very ugly. Florida destroyed South Carolina. My hope is Florida uses this as an opportunity to play kids who do not see a lot of action... A game like this doesn't help anyone and shouldn't be played.

The only questions here are: a) Will Citadel score? b) Will UF score more than 70? c) Does Citadel have anybody other than Roberts (what a waste of talent) who could even make the scout team at UF?

I've rooted for UF (against Ohio State) once in my life and they are 1-0. I look forward to that mark going to 2-0 next Saturday with great anticipation.

I have a few friends who are former teammates that played at UF, maybe I'll hit them up for a ticket. Then again, maybe not... I can always spend my Saturday fishing or doing something worthwhile and catch this debacle on SunSports next Sunday morning.

I really don't think The Citadel will be intimidated in this game, and they proved they don't intimidate easy against Wisconsin last year.

I honestly expect the game to be close after the first quarter. At half time Florida will be up by 20 or so, and in the 3rd quarter Florida will realize that that Cid won't lay down for them and Florida will completely run away with it. Florida will win by 40 or so unless Meyer really is serious about "hanging 100" on them.

I guess he hasn't. If the field goal post's were as wide as the entire field, we still would miss either short or wide right ... assuming we can even get the ball through with out getting blocked.

The only reason the UTC game was as close as it was, is because they blocked a field goal and ran it back for a TD. So basically yesterday was almost the third game we lost due to special teams not getting the job done.

That field goal against Miami was no big deal. The Gates haven't beat the Canes in years that was for all those Bull Gators. I doubt the Canes were humiliated.

CID1990
November 17th, 2008, 01:35 PM
Do you mean FBS?

Yes.

I have been arguing for years that we should not be playing all these money games. An occasional shot at a SC or NC FBS team would be okay, but Les Robinson went freaking crazy with these games. It really got ridiculous over the past few years.

It ultimately hasn't helped that back when we were stronger we managed to beat a few of these )now) FBS teams, which seems to make people think we have a chance against the best of them, I don't know. I think that the occasional game against one of the service academies (if they will ever agree to play us again) or games against teams like clempson or South Carolina are not unreasonable. For Chrissakes we are going to Arizona in 2010! That was the last of the Les Robinson games.

Personally, I would like to see us schedule some Patriot League and CAA games in the future. The games against Princeton were a good start. We have 12 games and there is no reason to waste two of them playing games we can't win. The athletic department actually says that these games are a recruiting tool. In other words, kids come to The Citadel because they might get a chance to walk on the field with Florida and LSU. Well kiss my a$$. I played football, and as a HS senior all I saw was a very public a$$ whoopin whenever some I-AA team went to play one of the big boys. It never made me think, "Gee, I sure would like to go play football for The Citadel so I can get to play against Florida, since I'm not good enough to actually play for a SEC team."

Not surprising that a GSU fan would think this way.

You see, in most of the rest of the world, especially at The Citadel, our athletes attend because they want to be Citadel Cadets. If you talked to Andre, you would find out that he bleeds El Cid blue whether the team wins or not. Some of us outside Statesboro know that there is more to be gleaned from four years of college than statistics in a record book.

What would have been a real waste would be if he had attended GSU.

That seems to be the name of the game right now. Forget sportsmanship, it's all about the big win. USC does it to every opponent they don't lose to. Why shouldn't UF do it? It's not just about a W anymore, its beating someone by 40 that really makes the point.

I was referring to his football career, since this a football message board... fancy that. Also, I'm sure Willie Simmons left Clemson because he wanted to be a Citadel Cadet...xlolx

As far as his education is concerned, as soon as he steps foot into the outside world that means squat as he will be judged and compensated on what he does after school, not during it. I don't know about the rest of the world but in my industry nobody cares where you went to college, only what you produce right now.

I guess you could spend some time watching the highlights of the GSU/Duke Basketball Game.

Finally, a blowout that Kyle Singler and Duke (No. 5 ESPN/USA Today, No. 8 AP) could enjoy. Look, small schools play large schools for two reasons. First, its the money, second, when you are from a place like the Citadel, it is already hard enough to recruit. When you can schedule some big games, it gives players an incentive in which to come and play for your school. For most players, playing in the Swamp is a dream come true...how many people can say that? It was a smart move on the AD's part if you ask me!

When those Citadel boys get a look at all the trim at a UF game they might soil their pants, run out the end of the stadium, miss the bus back to Chucktown, quit school, move to Gainesville and put in their transfer request immediately.

This could be the end of their program as we know it...

Yep.......They should win but these game are not out of the relm of reality in term's of competing for us.

Nobody is saying these games should not be scheduled, but a dose of reality should come in when scheduling these games.

I think this is a new scheduling thing for Florida. Scheduling SoCon teams between their last conference game and the Fla. St. game. Don't know who has this slot next year but App. St has it in '10 and Furman has it in '11.
To me this is no worse than scheduling a Sun Belt team, sorry ASU, no offense. :D I hope Citadel comes closer than the Lamecocks.

Back in the old days it was called saltpeter, but they mave have a different concoction now. They'd better bring a double dose Saturday, because if the weather's nice those boys are going to see numbers and quality of trim they never thought possible at the swamp.

If Florida can't beat the Citadel they don't deserve to be in the BCS.

Of course Florida will win the game.
Not beat, BEAT DOWN.xsmhx
Sorry............But that's the nature of the BCS Beast.
A mere WIN just won't cut it for Florida to hold onto that #4 spot in the voter's eye I'll gurantee it.

Georgia played and beat Georgia Southern and Central michigan with ease the 1st two games of the season and DROPPED out the #1 spot in the poll's because the voter's was not impressed.

BCS.
