Tampa Bay fired former ESPN analyst and Kings coach Barry Melrose after only 16 games. I'm surprised he left espn to go back to coaching after such a long layoff. I wonder if this means Matthew Barnaby will now be out of work as the lead hockey analyst for ESPN?

I'm not sure what surprises me more:

That the Lightning fired Melrose this early in the season

or that his replacement is Rick Tocchet xeekx

(I wonder what Tocchet thought the odds on that were? ;))

Well, I'm not really surprised by this, Melrose wasn't a great coach to begin with, but I still thought they'd give him longer than this to work it out. Hopefully Melrose gets a job at ESPN again, I always enjoyed him and Buccigross, even if it's not called NHL2Night.

Oh yeah, the Sharks are getting out of the conference semis this year.

his replacement is Rick Tocchet
Are you serious?? I loved Tocchet as a player, but he never struck me as very smart.

That's what I thought it said when I saw the news scroll across the bottom on ESPN, and that's what the article says

He was one of Gretzky's assistants in Phoenix before the gambling thing, so maybe the Great One taught him something...

Go figure xcoolx

I cannot beleive this. What, is Melrose going back to ESPN now?!?!? That would be sort of awkward!
