I was just bored at work and thought I would have some fun. I am by no means a proponent of the bowl system. But what if we had it in FCS instead of the playoffs. Here is how it might look. The conferences that do not take part in the post season were not in bowl consideration. I was going to use the minimum six wins to be bowl eligible, but there were not enough 6 win teams. So I dropped it to five, and still didnt have enough teams, so now you must only win four games to be bowl eligible, some of the teams are 3 win teams, but they are anticipated to become FCS bowl eligible. While doing this, I have come to the conclusion that there are way too many bowls................... Tell me what you think guys. Do not take this too seriously, this is merely for fun. What do you think of the matchups?
Eagle Bank Bowl- Stony Brook vs South Dakota
New Mexico Bowl- Bucknell vs Presbyterian
St. Petersburg Bowl- Citadel vs Stephen F Austin
Las Vegas Bowl- N. Dakota vs Delaware
New Orleans Bowl- Sacramento St vs S. Utah
Pionsettia Bowl- Gardner Webb vs E. Washington
Hawaii Bowl- E. Illinois vs Morehead St
Motor City- Murray St vs Robert Morris
Mieneke Car Care Bowl- Drake vs Sam Houston St
Champs Sports- Charleston Southern vs Bryant
Emerald Bowl- Butler vs Georgia Southern
International Bowl- Hampton vs Central Conn St
GMAC- Jacksonville St vs UC Davis
Independence- Northwestern St vs San Diego
Papa Johns- Florida A&M vs Jacksonville
Alamo- Scared Heart vs Eastern Kentucky
Humanitarian- Morgan St vs Monmouth
Texas- Dayton vs Samford
Armed Forces- ND State vs N. Arizona
Sun- Bethune Cookman vs Montana State
Music City- Lafayette vs Texas St
Insight- W. Illinois vs Holy Cross
Liberty- UMASS vs SD State
Gator- Maine vs Albany
Holiday- Colgate vs UT- Martin
Outback- Mcneese St vs Liberty
Chick Fil A- New Hampshire vs Furman
Capitol One- So. Illinois vs William & Mary
Cotton- Richmond vs Elon
Orange- Tenn State(OVC Winner) vs Villanova(at large)
Sugar- SC State(MEAC winner) vs Montana(at large)
Rose- Northern Iowa(MVC winner) vs Wofford( at large)
Fiesta- Weber St( Big Sky winner) vs Cal Poly( Great West Winner)

So, who are the 6 BcS conferences with the auto-bids to the big money.
BTW, I'd love to play in the Rose Bowl, but shouldn't the MVFC champ be matched up with the Big Sky champ in that?

If you read all of it, I had to drop the number of wins down to 4 because there was not enough 5 and 6 win teams.

That system sucks, we can't even play for the National Title, I demand a play-off NOW!

Well I was going to match up the MVC and the CAA, but the CAA champs are going to the national championship game. There was not alot of thought put into this, just something kind of fun I did.

Goodness! And what does that say about college football this year! A sad sad year for some teams, and quite a few very bad football teams.

I wish I would have added the SWAC teams, that would have taken some of the crappy teams out of bowl games.

That would probably be a very good football game, if Wofford and Northern Iowa matched up. I would tune in. Can you imagine Keith Jackson calling the game???

I originally posted this in a different thread, but I computed a BCS Top 25 for FCS as of Wednesday. I used the same formula the BCS uses I just the FCS polls instead of the FBS polls. So this is how it worked out. It should help out with the at-large BCS bowls.
1. James Madison 0.996
2. Appalachian St. 0.954
3. Montana 0.839
4. Cal Poly 0.830
5. Villanova 0.825
6. Richmond 0.790
7. Northern Iowa 0.756
8. Weber St. 0.752
9. Wofford 0.649
10. Elon 0.600
11. William & Mary 0.572
12. Southern Illinois 0.558
13. New Hampshire 0.530
14. Furman 0.457
15. Central Arkansas 0.385
16. Maine 0.332
17. S Carolina St. 0.315
18. Umass 0.315
19. McNeese St. 0.291
20. Harvard 0.237
21. Tenn St. 0.187
22. Tenn Martin 0.182

I love the idea of the Holiday Bowl in San Diego, but it may be too warm for Colgate - an outdoor bowl game in Anchorage, Alaska might be more suitable. Governor Sarah Palin can wear a bathing suit and handle the coin toss. :)
Love the thread!!

I liked your FCS Bowl stuff. I don't think theoretically they would let Elon and Richmond go at it a second time this season. That kind of stuff is usually avoided. Maybe Elon and W&M instead.

How did you determine the FCS conference to FBS conference was it based on region or other criteria. Really didn't understand the OVC = MWC? It was kind of confusing.

Pretty much opinion, mixed with a little history, and current strength. Really, not all FCS and FBS conferences are going to fit perfectly and its impossible to do regionally because of the lack of western teams.
As for OVC and MWC they are kind of similar, they are both kind of on the same tier as wanting to be among the power elite but they just haven't done enough to earn that respect.
