Should a non champion of a BCS conference play for the BCS title? Happened a few years ago and it might happen again this year. Tech is going to have a tough road to finish undefeated. If they get by OU but trip up in the Big 12 Championship, then either OU or Texas will jump them. Bama may or may not beat Florida in the SEC Championship. If Florida does beat Bama, they will jump OU and Texas and will be 1 of the 2.
I guess my question is, if someone other than OU, Texas, or Tech win the B12, do you think USC ought to jump them so that you have 2 conference champions playing the BCS Championship?

In the scenarios you propose, Utah and Boise State should be in the championship (with Ball State crying foul about being left out). THOSE would be the undefeated teams. The system is terrible and everyone knows it.

More and more people are for a playoff system in the BCS. This is an encouraging sign. xthumbsupx

But it isn't going to happen. They are talking with Fox right now about a 60% increase in the rights fees. They are keeping things as is for the next 10 years it looks like. Not even President-elect OB is going to be able to do anything about it.

You can still use the bowls as part of the playoff system, I dont see how the Sugar or Orange bowl excitment or revenue will be decreased if they go to a plus one system or a 4 team playoff using the bowls. That is the likely next step with a 8 or 16 team playoff down the riad.

Bold teams are either SEC or Big 12. I doubt the BCS will allow more than 2 teams in each conference and the loser of the championship game doesn't look good either, see Missouri last year and Arkansas the year before. right now it's still good to be a Oklahoma, Texas, or Georgia fan who probably won't win their conference or NC but still can get into the BCS.

The BCS bowls are allowed to take a maximum of two teams per conference. It's in the rules. If three teams from the same conference are 1-2-3 in the final standings, number 3 goes to a non-BCS bowl game.

Might have two non-BCS schools in the BCS. The Pac-10, Big East, and ACC won't get two. The Big Ten is the only third BCS conference with a possibility. MSU and Ohio State both have two losses. MSU and PSU still play each other. Ohio State has to go to Illinois and then have their rivalry game.
Do you take a two loss BCS team over an undefeated Boise State, or a one loss BYU (who will travel)?

Do I? No.
Do the bowls? Absolutely!
And recall, Oregon State controls their own destiny in the Pac-10. They could still win the automatic bid, with USC getting an invitation as well.

I will be able to tell you after the Big 12 and SEC championships but as for now there is too much "clutter" to determine who does what.
