What's been your favorite sports road trip or away game from a non-FCS perspective?
I gotta say last year when I went to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the Ducks/Wolverines game I had a blast - even before the game. AA is a great college down, we got treated wonderfully as Oregon fans, never had to buy a beer. In fact walking by a frat house a buncha guys came out and laid bread crumbs in front of our feet (Ducks), that was the most heckling we got. The game didn't hurt much either. The Big House is something everyone needs to see - it's not the loudest but you do get the goose bumpies when 100,000 people are singing the fight song.

Technically it's not a road trip but I like going to games at LSU especially at night. Some of the fans are rude but most are out for a good time. If you like to drink then that's the place to be. Tiger Stadium is probably the only stadium I don't mind sitting in the upper deck, you can see for miles the lights on both Mississippi River bridges is quite a sight at night. It's so loud the stadium shakes.

"Death Valley" is at the top of my list. Even though I hate the SEC. Looks like a blast.

I'd kill to go to Death Valley. Otherwise the places I've been that stand out in no specific order:
Nebraska - killer atmosphere, seats are on top of the field,
Oklahoma- very friendly people, sooner schooner was kinda cool
Penn State- incredible tailgating, great scene inside the stadium too
Michigan - just big, tailgating on a golf course, and Hail to the Victors
Notre Dame- I can't stand the Irish but it's like an Irish Catholic pilgrimage

Penn State and Army. Navy is also nice, but the setting isnt as nice as Army. Other FBS schools I have been too all had crappy atmosphere. Rutgers, Pitt, Syracuse and Temple to be specific. Rutgers is probably better now that they are drawing some fans.

Was on the sidelines of a Texas A&M/Nebraska game a few years ago, was pretty good.

I've been to both Georgia and Georgia Tech for games, and the gameday atmosphere at both is great. At UGA, the sight of over 100,000 people tailgating all over the city of Athens is amazing!
I wish Brown could get a better tailgating scene.

I've only been to 2 FBS stadiums, Clemson's and South Carolina's and the atmosphere at both is awesome. I would give a slight nod to SC, because with Clemson playing most home games early in the day, it has more of a family atmosphere while SC is eat, drink, and be merry and then kickoff at 7pm. A GREAT TIME!!!

Michigan xthumbsupx xsmiley_wix
LSU is also an awesome atmosphere and a venue every football fan should try to visit at least once. xthumbsupx
If we're talking NFL, FedEx Field is a pretty intimidating place to be a visiting fan. I'm 0-2 there. xbawlingx

I attended the Jan '95 Rose Bowl between Penn State and Oregon. That's the only college football game I've ever been to not involving Delaware. It was OK, but that stadium is so big and the rows so low-pitched that I would have rather watched it on TV. I felt like I was a mile away.

My mom's family were Alabama fans... my dad's were Tennessee fans. One year a huge group from both sides of the family took the house boat up from Guntersville, Alabama to Knoxville, Tennessee. Best FBS "road" trip EVER.

You mean there is a whole different style of football outside of FCS?xsmiley_wix
Everyone else can move up (FBS). I'll move down (I know, caught you on a technicallity, DDG). Best non-FCS for me was my junior year in college and our football team had not won a game in a year and a half playing at the NAIA level. We went to Chadron, Nebraska to face Chadron State, who at the time of the game was ranked #12 in DII and had future Buffalo Bill receiver Don Beebe playing for them. We spotted them 19 points and came back and won the game 27-19. Happy times.

Even though the 10 am kickoff made me miss the App game, I went for the LSU/North Texas game two weeks later (a night game).
It wasn't full (probably 70-75K) but understandable as Baton Rouge was hit very hard by the Hurricane and several tornadoes. Still had a great time. The local food was great and the people were upbeat. And to top it off, it was overcast and had a slight breeze all day so it wasn't hot. xthumbsupx Didn't go to Michigan so can't say about that. xsmhx
Only other FBS road trip I've been on was NC State in 2006. Not all that fun. NCSU fans are horrible.

NDSU is my college team - there aren't any divided loyalties with a BCS program so there aren't any real road trips for non-FCS games. However, I did go to the Rose Bowl once (Michigan v Washington State) and thought the seating sucked (93henfan). Parade > Rose Bowl.

I attended the 2004 Fiesta Bowl between Ohio State and Kansas State. Electric atmosphere...had to stand the entire game! Ended up leaving at the start of the 4th quarter because OSU was thumping K State...by the time we got to the Cheesecake Factory for a late dinner, K State had scored 3 TD's to make it VERY close....was sorry we left!

Any game at Army.
OU (Oklahoma) was a good one as well. Great college football atmosphere and good fans; talk about tailgaiting.
