Chase Utley's emotions got the best of him today while giving his speech at CBP following the parade. He said We're the World F'n Champs in front of 45k people at CBP and who knows how many people watching T.V. I'm quite surprised Comcast Sportsnet didn't have the parade on a delay to prevent something like this from happening. I have a feeling Chase is going to get grilled pretty bad for his slip up. While it was inappropiate i hope people don't go overboard with it.

Early parade estimates are between 3-4 million people. I have never ever seen a parade turnout like the one Philly today. It was absolutely crazy.

Kinda funny, really...

I'd suggest Chase get a copyright on that phrase...sorta like Pat Reilly has the copyright on "3-Peat"

World F'n Champs...I'm surprised that hasn't turned up on a Red Sox shirt yet.

He really made the entire team and organization look bad. What a way to put a damper on what otherwise was a great day. One would hope that David Montgomery and the other owners would let Utley know in no uncertain terms that he owes the entire organization as well as any young fans a sincere apology. After the F-Bomb that he dropped on live TV at the All Star game, you'd think he'd exercise more intelligence. Apparently, he didn't learn. A great player, but don't put a microphone in front of him.

Ah, lighten up. We're WORLD *****ING CHAMPIONS!!! It only happens in Philly once every quarter century or so.

Man what a day. I just got home. Sunburned, windburned, footsore, but HAPPY AS A LITTLE KID IN A CANDY STORE!!!

What a parade is all I can say. Philly is the best sports town in America, bar none. No one is more appreciative of their teams.

Best sign I saw today: METS FANS ARE WORKING TODAY xlolx xlolx xlolx

I was at the parade today. Had a federal court hearing at 10 a.m. and got out around noon. I had tickets for the finale at CBP but could not make it down. The subway was absolutely frightening with people crammed like sardines. I got out of there and temporarily looked for a cab, but couldn't get one. So I called home and had my wife TiVo the show. That was at 1:30 p.m. It then took me 6 hours to get from center city to Easton (65 miles) via regional rail to Doylestown to my car. I would have been better off driving. Everyone took public transit today and it was totally incapable of handling the mass. KYW reported some waiting as long as four hours at Suburban Station, which I was at temporarily, but saw the same sardine situation, so I hoofed it 14 blocks to 30th Street Station to catch the R5. Train pulled out at 3:30--arrived Doylestown 6:30 p.m. (normal is 1:15 ride). A very long day. But I did get to see the trucks go by on Broad Street with the players. The ROAR that went up was truly deafening and the crowds were so thick that they extended back on the cross streets a good 1/2 city block. Catching the Booster Bus to Georgetown tomorrow at 7 a.m. so I'm off to bed. ...Exhausted but the smile is still there!!!!!!!

Pretty much a similar experience here ngineer. We parked at the airport and took a cab to the sports complex because KWY-1060 said that the roads around the stadium were jam packed and that EVERYONE should take SEPTA or other public transit. Well, the people did exactly that. When our cab pulled up, the lot at the Wachovia Center barely had any cars in it and those that did drive were waved right on in.

After the ceremony, we beat feet to the Broad and Pattison subway because there was nary a cab to be found. We caught the third train to City Hall, walked to Suburban Station, and planned to catch the R1 to the airport. It was a two-hour wait at least according to the police. They were holding people in the station and metering the amount of people allowed down to the platforms. So, we went outside to try to catch a cab there. We ended up waiting about an hour to get a cab. Then we get to the airport and right out on to I-95 S, which was a jam to the blue route.

What a f'ing day.xrotatehx

Got to S. Philly at 10am. Had a breakfast of champions at Pat's. The people that have been around for a while unanimously say its the biggest Philly parade ever besting the 2.5mil thr Flyers did.

Loved Chase Utley, it was no slip, absolutely 100 percent intentional. Its a word everyone uses.

No one throws a parade like Philly.

Drove to Fern Rock (about 15 min. from me) in N. Philly this morning to catch the subway down. We had to park about 12 blocks from the station. Walked there, and then waited about 45 minutes to get on the subway. Got on, and they had us leave about 2/3 full. When we hit the Olney stop, we were crushed against the side of the subway car. Got off at City Hall, and watched from just south, kind of right where broad street goes south from the building. It was tough to see much from there unfortunately, mostly due to people putting girlfriends, etc. up on their shoulders. In retrospect, we should have walked a few blocks further south.

My brother and his friends tried to get on the train in East Falls, but wound up walking all the way down Kelly Drive and the Parkway because of the SEPTA situation. Two trains blew by the station full, so they just decided to walk. They actually said it would have been optimal to drive down Kelly Drive and park there, as all of the parking lots that are there for the regattas were empty.

After the parade passed, we walked south for a bit, before walking west. We knew it'd be impossible to get back on the subway at City Hall, so we walked to 30th st., hoping to just catch the regional rail back to Fern Rock. They announced that trains weren't stopping due to being full, so we jumped on the Market Frankford line back to city hall after a late lunch, and then took the broad street line back to Fern Rock.

A friend of my brother's actually walked back to Havertown since the trains weren't dependable...

What a mess, but a happy mess.

It really wasn't that bad...an overjoyed human being expressed his emotion in the best way he knew how. xnodx

No worse than President Bush dropping the "s-bomb" on television. xcoolx

The thing i don't understand is people are complaining that he said it with a bunch of kids in the stands. Well what is worse, someone saying a 4 letter word or parents letting their kids skip school to watch a parade? Technically none of those kids legally should have been there in the first place. Now i have no real problem with what he said and i certaintly don't care about the kids skipping school. But if you're the type of person who cares about a simple word then you have to be equally, if not more upset with kids skipping school.

Was busy this weekend, couldn't get online much, but man, what a freaking awesome day. No city puts on a parade like Philly. I ended up driving the family into the city to my father-in-laws place, he drove us the 12 blocks to the Broad and Olney station (next station after Fern Rock), hopped the Broad St subway line, and within two stops they made it an express all the way to City Hall due to the overcrowding. We stayed up around 16th and Market to watch it go by - obviously one of the more crowded spots. Were probably 50 deep in front of me and 50 deep in back of me. Kids loved it, despite the crowding we did see a whole lot. Loved Chase Utley's quote as well - obviously said from the heart and the city loves him. Absolutely great day. Best sign I saw was one saying "David Wright shot a 72 on Wednesday". Beautiful. xlolx

Funny you say that. Every time I hear Cole Hamels name I keep thinking... "Let me out of the car Cole. Let me out of the car Cole." which of course was Tom Cruise. :p
