I know Stadiumsare hot topics parts so I thought I would post a PIC of what Bobcat Stadium at Wacker Field could look like four years from now. Plans are to start Phase I right after the season ends. So far a few BIG donors have stepped up and donated big bucks to support the build and if the Cats keep playing like they want a Championship.

And now it's a matter of winning, because without winning...there's no fans in San Marcos, which we've seen time and time again...
Of course, it doesn't hurt that alums are covering the problems -- such as the Fields donation that made the goal of season ticket sales a reality. That's what it takes and that's what gotten other programs in a position to move from FCS to FBS.

What they failed to say is that they are planning on doing this in phases and of course, if there FBS move fails or issues as it relates to the present moratorium postpones it, you won't be seeing anything like that stadium in the next few years...

Actually, Texas State University - San Marcos in the Texas State University System. Other schools in the system include Sam Houston State, Lamar and Sul Ross.
Angelo State was a part of the system, but left for the Texas Tech system because of programs with the system administration and an attempt to change the name of their school to Texas State University - San Angelo. They wanted autonomy with protection under a system umbrella instead of the greed that is in our system. They got it now.

Enrollment does not equal everything...anyone can be "bigger", but are they necessarily better?
Do you bring in the most research money? Can't recall the numbers there, but I do not think you are blazing a trail in that regard. Do you churn out the most post-graduate students (i.e masters and doctoral)? No. That's a big deal for schools with flagship status. Your former student body president acknowledged as much in a public forum (your BobcatFans.com forum infact) and even said academically in 2006 that SHSU had TXST beat...
You guys are not head and shoulders above the rest...outside of enrollment. Perhaps if you were, you would have claimed your "rightful status" as some of you may want to term it, at the top of the system. So far, nothing...

States and schools with liberal tax and spend policies are going to be absolutely destroyed with what's coming down the pipe. Hope the folks in the NE and Northern part of the country get used to tough times. I am in Texas and I have people from all over the NE as my neighbors. They said they couldn't get out fast enough.

Do you have some hard data on who puts out the largest number of post graduate degrees? I was one of those post graduate students at Texas State and the program continues to grow.
In terms of academics, SHSU does not have Texas State beat. I know that our admission requirements are greater than SHSU. I will admit SHSU does have a superior mens basketball program, but I am unwilling to concede academics.
Honestly, what aspiring young scholar day dreams about the opportunity to study in Huntsville or San Marcos for that matter?
I am not hating on SHSU, but I believe that if the Texas State University System was to name a flagship school, it would be Texas State University-San Marcos.

This is all part of the push to move to the FBS. IF a stadium like this is built it will help with our. To get a stadium built like this we need more donations and more interest in our sports. Texas State shows they can easily sell 15,000 seats when they have a good team. Right now we are getting about 12,000. If we can keep winning this season sellouts could be expected. IF we go to the playoffs sellouts WILL happen.

The stadium has to seat 30,000 for the move to FBS. If we win and get in a good conference I could see the place filling up. As for now.....no.

I think you need to average 15k paid attendance over a rolling two year period.
Of course after the moratorium they could change things

Well, that's a good question. The answer to that one will be win and they will come. Also keep in mind that the picture shown is the end product of several stages of expansion over several years. I doubt it will be in four years, more like ten.

In one set of rankings. Care to share the TSUS rankings? Last I saw a copy, we were both on the same tier. As we all know, everyone can use rankings and ratings to their advantage.
I like to rely on things that are easy to display, such as the Bobcats struggles at the Division I level despite having a 1.5 to 2 times spending advantage over quite a few of their SLC foes...apparently the Steinbrenners of the SLC can't deliver more times than they can. Think you guys are going to the playoffs this year, but it's been a much different feel than the last run... xthumbsupx

We are just focused on Northwestern State.
Texas and A & M have a dilemma now that Texas Tech and UH entered the flagship race. UNT is third. UTSA is a distant fourth but big brother to the east does not want them that strong. Texas will give them the status given to UTEP but no more. Texas State will continue to grow and prosper which gives you a sour place in the gut doesn't it? Texas can not stop us now. We will eventually have the same status as a UTEP. Sam Houston could be there too in a few years. Your administration has smelled the coffee.

I live in the Austin area with daughter about to graduate from high school. From talking to her almost everyone uses Texas State as their backup school if they can't get into their first choice of school. The ones that will major in music or teaching will chose Texas State first. Texas State doesn't have much of an engineering school, they don't have a medical school, or law school. SHSU and LU have about the same size endowment as Texas State while having double and triple the enrollment of those two. They are hardly a flagship school, but it doesn't really matter. They'll be going FBS within 5 years, along with UTSA, SHSU and LU.

She should go to Texas State since it seems the Longhorns and Aggies need to have someone to tell them what to do...the Business School has several awards and won national competitions, Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Sciences, Nursing, and Education, blah blah, blah. The only school in the State of Texas to produce a President of the United States, no matter what Lady Bird and her daughters would have wanted you to believe. In other words we hold are own....

It's mostly about protecting our own interests from the ego-driven causes in San Marcos that end up negatively effecting us...because since we are all in the same system, we have to end up copying them and they end up copying us...it's pretty pathetic, but that's what happens.

SHSU has led the SLC in Commissioner's Honor Roll award winners (student-athletes with 3.0 or over) and overall athletic department GPA for the last three, four years. Yep, we have a bad focus on academics.

Fought too much in Austin and all points over Texas with individuals from San Marcos regarding this system, their attempt for flagship, the name change and all sorts of things. There's lots of ill feelings there. Do like a few people there (CP being one of them)...but people like Doerr, Fischer, M.A.P and company completely left a bad taste in my mouth...their continued disparaging remarks that speak down about the SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE are ridiculous...SLC needs chutzpah and boot you folks out per SLC rules.
