Demons' Henderson invited to postseason all-star game

NATCHITOCHES — For the second straight season, a Northwestern State offensive lineman has been invited to one of the three major postseason college all-star games evaluated by pro scouts, with senior guard Tim Henderson receiving an invitation to the Texas Vs. The Nation College All-Star Game Jan. 31 in El Paso, Texas.

The game pits players from Texas college teams against players from other schools around the country. It will be nationally televised by CBS College Sports.

Last year, Demons All-America offensive tackle Demetrius Bell played in the game and benefited from the week of exposure to NFL personnel staffs. He was chosen in the seventh round of the NFL Draft last April and is a rookie on the Buffalo Bills active roster.

“There’s no doubt that playing in the ‘Texas Vs. The Nation’ game helped Demetrius,” said NSU head coach Scott Stoker. “There aren’t as many of the all-star games as there used to be so getting into one is a very nice honor. We’re happy for Tim.”

Henderson, a 6-foot-3, 305-pound product of Shreveport and Evangel High School, is a three-year starter for the Demons. He has played mostly at right guard this season but also has played right tackle and some at center.

“At the next level he’ll be inside, because he is versatile and has very good agility for his size,” said Stoker. “We’ve had a steady stream of scouts through here checking out our seniors this season and he’s getting a lot of close looks.”

Henderson spent the first two seasons of his college career at Ole Miss after a standout prep career at Evangel. His blocking has been part of the reason Demons’ senior tailback Byron Lawrence is closing in on becoming the second-leading career rusher in Demon football history, perhaps as quickly as this weekend.

Henderson and Lawrence will help lead the Demons (5-3 overall, 2-1 in the Southland Conference) into Saturday afternoon’s game at Texas State (5-3, 2-1).
