Looks like Ty is stepping down at the end of the season, definitely not a surprise but he is officially done now.

Jim Morra is probably pissed. He wanted that job. I wonder if he'll back out of the Seahawks job for the UW job? He'll probably make more money with the Seahawks, but he was talking about wanting the UW job when he was in good standing with teh Falcons too.

Willingham did a poor job but the way he has been treated by Washington fans is astounding. They blame him for EVERYTHING - nevermind the sanctions from the 2001 Rose Bowl team and the lack of investment into facilities by the Athletic Department.

Yeah, in retrospect, Willingham was a bad hire given the situation at UDub. He's not a bad coach (not a great one either), but his style was doomed to fail there.

Anyway, he's guranteed at least one more win. Sweet Jesus, is Wazzu terrible this year or what? I think they may be the absolute worst team in I-A.

I agree, Willingham was by no means a great coach but the mess that Neuheisel and Keith Gilbertson left that program in, combined with the facilities issues just made the job that much harder for him. Current speculation up here (mostly just by fans, no real substantial evidence at all) says Lane Kiffin, Gary Pinkel and Dave Christensen are possibilities for the next head coach.

No matter how bad Wazzu or UW is, the two are always so competitive when they play. UW should have pounded the Cougs last year but lost, same with Rose Bowl bound WSU a few times against sub .500 Huskies.

Probably one of the most unpredictable rivalries in college football.

And yes Wazzu is the worst team in I-A.xlolx Sucks too cause I think we all wanted to see Wulff do well after leaving EWU.

Bobby's not on the short list? ;) ;) ;)

I have heard Gary Pinkel as well - but at this point why would he leave Mizzou? UW and its fans' mentality and image of their program is still 1998 and it needs to be 2008.

Hauck would be the smartest direction they could go, honestly.

But with his ties to Neuheisel he probably won't get more than a sniff at that job.

UW still likes Neuheisel - at least their fans do. Who knows - I just think it'd be smart of them to try a different direction then hire a big named high $$ coach. Hauck knows UW and is an impressive recruiter.

It'd be nice to see an FCS coach move up and take this position. Anyone care to throw any other FCS names out there besides Hauck?

1.) Pinkel isn't going to leave Mizzou, and I don't believe UW has enough money to spend to get him to consider it.

2.) Washington should consider cashing in on this offer: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=3190308

3.) There are going to have to be serious commitments to the AD to help bring the Washington schools back up to par.

4.) I wouldn't be surprised if a 4 or 5 year deal is presented to Lane Kiffin. He still knows the Pac 10, and probably still has some strong recruiting ties. I wouldn't be surprised if he was named HC immediately after the last game (Monday morning press conference) to give him time to assemble a staff and hit the ground running for recruiting.

If they could go back now - how quick they woulda snatched Jim Harbaugh (who was at San Diego)

No doubt after the season is over, some FCS names will appear (from what I understood, Willingham will remain through the year).

Some ideas---

1. Chris Peterson (Boise State)---Could be a hot commodity if Boise continues playing like they have.

2. Same goes for that coach currently at Utah (name escapes me).

3. If Montana goes deep in the playoffs, Hauck might get noticed.

4. Same with McBride at Weber.

5. Central Washington is still undefeated (except for that game in Missoula). A big jump from DII to Pac-10, but what do the Huskies really have to lose.

some names from around the area...

Ellerson at Cal Poly? Bohl at NDSU?

Chris Petersen at Boise State would be good. Hate it for Ty, but the once proud UW program has suffered terribly under him and yes, Neuheisel and Gilbertson didn't help the matter at all. End of the day though, it's all about wins and losses. Good luck to both sides.

I am fully enjoying all the heads exploding up here in Seattle. I moved here when Willingham was hired, and all the Seattle-ites could talk about, was how racist Notre Dame was for firing him.

Now it seems those enlightened sensibilities are being thrown out the window because he didn't win here either.

A side of Washington fans I have never seen - you would think the economy crisis is linked to Willingham also with them.
