Fewer and fewer Independants left

Theres only five left at the FCS level. With Bryant going full NEC in 2012. And NCCU leaning towards the MEAC.

the need to rename the conference. It sounds stupid to say Great West and then have a NJ member.

American Conference or something.

It's like the ECHL. It was originally the East Coast Hockey League when it only had teams in the eastern half of the US. Then, they went out and got teams from the northwest and Alaska, and now they simply call it the ECHL, like Kentucky Fried Chicken is officially known as KFC.
