Why has access/registration for the Fordham Fans website been "disabled?" It is functioning - with up to date topics being posted regularly - but "new" access appears to have been discontinued about 6 months ago. If this is a ploy to keep KenZ out of your hair, I understand and sympathize.

I wanted to post some questions about Saturday's game. You know, best routes in from NJ, where to tailgate or best pubs within walking distance, etc.

Weird-- I do know they best way to get to Da South Bronx and Fordham is to take the George Washingtonn. Arthur Ave near Fordham is known as NY's real little Italy, but I am sure Joltin can provide a specific place to go.

If I had been able to get to the Fordham Fans site I would have added the following information:

I am familiar with I-95 across the GW and through the Bronx. I use it, when prudent, on my all too frequent trips to New England (family). I've never been to Fordham however, and need to know the best place to turn north from I-95 and then the best route into the stadium area.

Andy, a Lafayette poster, has stated that he likes to park at the Botanical Gardens lot. Even though it costs, he finds it easy in and easy out. That is an option if one doesn't tailgate, but I cannot see the good folks at the Botanical Gardens welcoming "patrons" who set up grills and lawn chairs while swilling down adult beverages.

If one plans to tailgate, where is the best place to park?

If one chooses not to tailgate, I would welcome some suggestions for pub/restaurants that are within walking distance and would be open pregame - let's say 11:00 or so.

I am still curious as to why the Fordham Fans site has been "restricted." Is Dick Cheney the moderator?

Fordham does have a quite large parking area on campus right near the stadium. It may be restricted however to people with parking passes etc. now. Last time I was at Fordham however my parents were able to park in that on campus lot.

In 06 we parked right next to the stadium and tailgated no problem - I don't think it was the Botanical Gardens lot - it was just BELOW the stadium on the far sideline opposite the main stands - maybe across the street from the main Botanical entrance from what I recall - No need for pub pre-game as there will be plenty of food in the parking lot going around - I do strongly suggest taking a quick drive up to Arthur Ave after the game - the local shops will take good care of you if planning a nice Sunday dinner or there are plenty of good places to eat after the game.

Due to a number of spam registrations, the moderators of the Fordham Fans site closed open registration. It became a burden on them to have to monitor and delete such accounts.

The only way to register at Fordham Fans now is to be "sponsored" by an existing member. The existing member contacts the moderator through private messaging and forwards information to the moderator to arrange for the registrant to activate an account. If you would like me to sponsor you, I'd be happy to do so.

I'm a little busy right now and can perhaps add more info later. Right now, here is a link to a website that we started last year to assist visitors plan a day in the Fordham area. As you can see, the rapidly expanding bankruptcy business has kept me busy and prevented from updating for this year, but the general information is still good.

Thanks for posting this, Carney2. I used to post on that site all the time but have changed my e-mail address within the past 18 months and since cannot gain access to update my information. It's a shame, because the Fordham board has a lot of great posters on it. Any way this stuff can be resolved?

carney, sorry for the slow reply here. registration on our site is on hold after I believe a bunch of spammers or some sort of crap began swamping us. I put up a thread asking the moderator if there is any way for you (and others like you!) to join.

I'd recommend mapping out the following route for the most enjoyable ride option to campus. It's slightly longer than the Webster Ave. route but you get to wave to the Columbia field on the way and even though the Bronx is much improved, you'll completely avoid any possibility of being in a Chevy-Chase-Vacation-like scene with this route. From the George Washington Bridge: get off of the bridge, take the exit for the Henry Hudson Parkway North (1st exit from the Bridge). Follow the Henry Hudson Pkwy North to Exit 24, Mosholu Parkway. Stay on the Mosholu Parkway to the end (the New York Botanical Garden will be in front of you). Take a right onto Southern Boulevard. Fordham's main entrance is at the third light. Turn right into campus.

For tailgating, definitely head for the parking lot that is a close walk to the field. Get there early, though, because it should be packed for homecoming and you might get stuck a) in the garage or b) told to go to the Botanical Gardens.

I'll leave the pub question for Joe. I'm aware of them but the ones I know of aren't convenient to campus and I'm not sure if they're open at 11. For post-game grub, definitely check out Little Italy.

For post game grub I reccomend a drive south down Webster Ave.....about two blocks past the rim shop you'll find an ice-cream truck converted into a mobile Mexican restaurant......but please leave someone in your vehicle while you order your food. If not, its bound to be gone by the time you get back......

Thanks, guys. I'm hoping that Fordham has not given me his "Thank you, God. I finally have a chance to get even." route. Anyway, it's all up to the weather man now.

Are you more interested in eating or having a few drinks?

Right around Fordham, there are any number of the finest Italian restaurants in New York, or anywhere for that matter.

The options for the pub scene in the area are more limited. The pubs are primarily student-type places. Nothing "high class," just places to sit at the bar and have a few drinks. The best of the options is perhaps, "Howl At the Moon," which has decent food. There is another place, Mugz. Both places may be overrun with recent graduates, though, because it is Homecoming Weekend. Honestly, carney, I'm going to warn you to "stay away." If you must try a pub, there is an on-campus joint called "Dagger John's." You can get a beer and some food. It's serviceable, but no one is going to get rich franchising this brand, if you know what I mean.

I'd stick to tailgating in the main parking lot; or hit one of the Italian joints for a sit-down lunch. If you are in the mood for pizza, Roberto's -- rated by Zagat's to be one of the best Italian restaurants in NY, and rated No. 1 two years ago -- recently opened an authentic Southern Italian pizza restaurant which some have praised as being the best pizza restaurant in the country. Opens at 12. Here's a review from the NY Times:

ATTENTION, ATTENTION,ATTENTION.

If history repeats itself there will be no tailgating on campus for the Homecoming game with the Pards.

Is this bizarre, is this stupid, yes but remember this is Fordham. While tgating is allowed at all other fball games, not so for homecoming. In lieu there is a "free" set up of food and soft drinks in a large tent. Beer and wine can be purchased for a minimum cost. As I recall, the cost is perhaps $10 for adults to enter the tent. Two years ago I called Security prior to Hcoming as was assured that we could tailgate. When we arrived, we were told no. This happened to others as well and was a hot topic on the Fordham message board.

Eventually the reason I got from the administration was that in the past the drinking was out of hand, alums passing out, bon fire in the parking lot etc.

Good luck.

Hey, I had forgotten that, jimbo.

I'l check with the AD's office to see if tailgating will be permitted; however, if I recall correctly, someone did that last year and was told, "sure, you can tailgate," only to discover that security wouldn't let him tailgate when he arrived.

JJ I was one of the ones who was told yes & then no. Thought it was two years ago but could've been last year. Unfortunately I am unable to attend this year.

Thats unfortunate. Fordham reallt is a great place to go for a game with all the activities close by. I wont be there unfortunantly due to a prior commitment.

Just wondering if any of you Pard fans made it to the game, and what else you may have done: zoo, restuarant, botanical gardens?

It helps to know what our visitors did while visiting Fordham, and what suggestions they have to improve the gameday experience at Fordham.

Only one person posting on the Lafayette board so far confesses to having been in attendance. The weather man convinced me to watch it on TV. Based on the commentary from the Lafayette announcers, I made the correct decision.

I watched it on TV as well - but I still think I'm going to make the drive to Hamilton, regardless on the weather. That's going to be a can't-miss game.

I was at the game... took the Mosholou Parkway route as I have in the past.. flew from my take-off spot in Passaic County to the Fordham entrance in 25 minutes.. 12:10 - 12:35!! 80mph all the way to the GWB toll booth.. aside from the score, this was the most pleasing result of the day!

I give Fordham an A for the whole experience... though I was expecting the $10 parking fee, the garage was nice touch... worried about parking, but I forgot they were building the garage.

Homecoming had a nice atmosphere.. crashed the tent and had some free lunch! Plus, I grabbed some free Fordham gear.. a bullhorn and flag.. it's nice to decorate the rec room with...

7 Blocks of Granite monument was a nice touch...

Can you rip up that adajecnt parking lot and make it your baseball field?

Weather was not bad at all... sideways rain every now and then, but the wind dried you out real quickly.. there was a downpour the first minute of the game, but that lasted 30 seconds.

No real time to sightsee beforehand and the dampness prompted me to leave once the game concluded. I really want to try the restaurants someday.
