The Texans lead 14-7 near the end of the 3rd quater. Since then they have given up two touchdowns and are down 21-14 with 2:53 left in the 4th.

And it's because we didn't have I-AA stud Jerome Mathis...

I just can't figure out how teams like the Texans and the Lions keep getting great draft picks, but still manage to field such awful teams.

The Lions is because they have some of the best WR's in the league but no QB to throw to them. Harrington couldn't hit water if he fell out of a boat. That plus they wasted all the high draft picks on offense, and therefore have no defense. The Texans I have no clue, maybe because they keep drafting OL and they keep on sucking. :bang:

I agree with that to an extent. I was listening to the Vikings-Lions game on the radio today, and I think the announcer made a good point. He said that because Harrington never has protection, he rushes everything. Then, he gets so used to being pressured, that he keeps rushing everything he does. He doesn't have a chance to get into any rhythm. As for the Texans, I wonder why they don't go find a new offensive line coach or something.

They keep drafting OL? Really? Not even the #1 position filled. That's D-Line and that's a big problem area.

Chester Pitts, R2, 2002. Fred Weary in R3, 2002. Milford Brown, R6, Supplemental 2002. Seth Wand, R3, 2003. Chance Pearce, R7, 2003. No one in 2004. Drew Hogodon, R5, 2005.

Wand was a project from Div II. Pearce was a long-snapper. Hogodon is already starting at C and has done great thus far. Brown hasn't been that spectacular, but has started nonetheless as has Weary.

Five OL (really 4, since Pearce was considered a LS) since the inception drafted despite being the most major and obvious problem?

They've filled the rest with FAs called Weigert, McKinney, Wade, Riley and Washington. We know Ryan Young and Boselli were Expansion Draft busts, especially Young. They know Boselli would bust but wanted both Payne and Walker, so it was worth taking.

High draft picks wasted on offense instead of defense? You used some high picks to get Buchanon. Traded two for one to get Babin. Brought in Robinson and Johnson with first-round picks in back to back years, right? First six picks in 2004 were on DEFENSE! Antawn Peek came in round 3 in 2003. Four years. Three of your five first-round picks were defense. Later round picks on defense have busted, but the Texans have done good in round one through three defensively with the exception of Charles Hill in 2002,R3.

Last year, they changed to zone blocking. It finally started working at the end of last year and Davis had his best games running the ball. This year, it's been a mess. Against Cleveland, they held their own. Then, this week, injuries to Hodgdon and Washington. You already had some other injuries on the line including your #1 guy, Weigert. So you have guys on a bad O-Line that should be 2nd or 3rd stringers starting (i.e Wand).

Oh, one of the OL coaches is now our offensive coordinator, Joe Pendry...
