Kickoff is in 4 hours. Temp is in the low 50's and a nice sunny day. The wind is blowing 5-10, so not too bad, we'll see. I'm off to the tailgate... feel free to update this thread once the game begins.

I had a guy in my bar three nights ago who isht his pants and just kept right on dancing. Didn't know whether to kick him out or give him a free drink.
Anyway, Go Griz - hope I don't have to start drinking in the 3rd quarter like I did last week.

The D still has no sacks, but the pass rush has at least frustrated Nichols & the coverage has been really good. The Griz have got a few bat downs at the line, too.

As Gurns pointed out, when Nichols is on the move he becomes a much more average passer. The no sacks thing is a bit misleading to me, as every time pressure has come Nichols has thrown it away, which is smart, but obviously lead to no sacks...

The special teams had some miscues in the earlier portion (2 missed FGs & a shanked punt), but two special teams plays won this game for the Griz:
1. the blocked punt that set up Mariani's second TD
2. the great handling job by Wood on the bad punt snap & subsequent punt inside the 5 yard line, setting up the safety.

Yeah, they can't get 7 DI wins now, so they essentially need some sort of crazy miracle in the conference standings. The way Weber, Montana, & NAU are playing, I don't think there's much chance of that.

The biggest difference was that even though Cole still held on to the ball for too long, he didn't make any "horrible" passes, except that one that was totally dropped by the corner and then went up in the air and fell to the ground, and he didn't fumble. No turnovers and TADA Griz win.

I still don't understand why Griz fans are down on Berquist (not all, of course). Every time I watch the Griz he impresses me.
I think you are seeing more of a situation in which defenses don't respect your run game near as much since Hilliard is gone. Factor that in and I think Berquist has done a heck of a job.

i really like how coach paulson has the defense blitzing so much. the price you pay for blitzing is thin coverage, and I think if we can blitz and cover that well against an offense like EWU, it's definitely a strategy to keep against other teams. I've not seen the griz blitzing so much in a long time.

Where has that been all season?
If you are going to blitz one of the best Passing QB's in the nation, why are you not blitzing less potent offenses? Why game 5?
I guess if I could ask one critical question, that would be it.

We are really really young on Defense. According to some post game comments I heard the Coaches were not willing to leave the DB's on their own 1 on 1 the first few games. So they didn't blitz much and played everyone back and just the front 4 rushing. Now it seems they have some confidence in the corners and will be blitzing more. Thank God the corners have come along and are looking good, what a difference!xthumbsupx

i think that's exactly it. We got a real treat in Trumaine Johnson. True freshman and he's kept some of the best wide outs in the nation (Ramses Barden, Aaron Boyce, Bryant Eteuati) relatively quiet. Andrew Swink is solid as well. I think the corners have proven themselves to the coaches.
