I'll do updates as long as this is competitive. Schedule me for about 10 minutes.
Maine kicked off, Delaware returned to the 28.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:09 PM
1st and 10 incomplete, good pressure from Maine
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:09 PM
2nd and 10 complete for 13 to Lumm (sp?)
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:10 PM
1-10 DE 42: complete to Duncan for 4
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:11 PM
2-6 DE 46: Schoenhoft keeps on the option for 5
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:12 PM
Delaware gets a first down on 4th and 1 on a generous spot, then completes a pass for 25
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:15 PM
I don't know how you guys do this every play stuff. I'm sticking to big plays.
Delaware kicks a 31 yard field goal.
Delaware 3
Maine 0
10:01 left in 1st.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:21 PM
Maine 3 and out, punts on 4th and 7, Delaware will start on about the DE 32
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:25 PM
Maine brings the house on 3rd and 8, and Delaware completes a 20 yard pass to sustain the drive.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:26 PM
Pass interference on Maine on 3rd and 6 sustains the drive further.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:30 PM
Delaware misses a 43 yard field goal wide left. Maine's next 3 and out will start from their own 33.
Maine has the most aesthetically pleasing ineffective defense I've ever seen. They get great pressure, have to lead the NCAA in almost sacks, but then they are great at blowing it on 3rd down.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:38 PM
For crying out loud.
Maine has 3rd and 4 on the Delaware 29. They run the worst third down play in the history of football, which included an illegal shift and having to snap the ball because the play clock was at 1.
Punting from the 36 yard line, it is a shank and Delaware will start at their own 29.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:39 PM
End of the first quarter
Hens 3
Bears 0
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:43 PM
Delaware 3 and out, punting from their own 39.
Muffed by Maine, recovered by UD, but flagged for kick catch interference. Maine starts at the UD 41.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:49 PM
Harvey makes a 29 yard field goal for Maine.
Delaware 3
Maine 3
Farkes missed Landis Williams twice in the endzone, accuracy seems to be an issue for him.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:51 PM
Delaware will start from their own 29.
11:26 left in 2nd.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 06:56 PM
Delaware touchdown 33 yards Schoenhoft to Crosby
Maine still getting great pressure, but the secondary can't cover anyone.
XP is good.
Delaware 10
Maine 3
8:00 to go in 2nd.

Yahoo site says Delaware scored 23 in the 1Q? Typo I guess.
Correct. It's 10-3 Delaware.
Maine gets one first down and punts.
Great punt downed at the 7.

October 11th, 2008, 07:07 PM
I was looking at Yahoo and marked this down for Del. I guess we still have a ballgame.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 07:09 PM
Delaware punts from the 10, Whetstone returns to the DE-39. About 4 minutes to go in the half, let's see if something gets going.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 07:11 PM
Farkes with an 18 yard QB draw, then gets leveled on an (uncalled) helmet to helmet hit. He is still down, and looks to be unconscious.
Uncle Buck
October 11th, 2008, 07:12 PM
In fairness to the UD guy, Farkes lowered his head into the mix. A no-no on both sides.

Farkes with an 18 yard QB draw, then gets leveled on an (uncalled) helmet to helmet hit. He is still down, and looks to be unconscious.
Reason it was uncalled was because he ducked his head into the hit. Hope he is going to be ok.
Edit: Agree with Buck. Bad on both guys
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 07:13 PM
Farkes was apparently conscious, but leaves the field very gingerly carrying his non-throwing shoulder.
Michael Brusko will replace him, Brusko is Maine's leading receiver tonight.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 07:15 PM
Maine a.) apparently disagrees that Farkes took any responsibility for that hit and b.) still has no discipline for the 10th straight season under Cosgrove and takes a personal foul after getting a first down at the 9.
Uncle Buck

Hopefully he just has to shake off the cobwebs.
Now 6 gets a PF for 15 yards, didn't he just have one offset a few plays ago as well?
Maine has to stay disciplined.
Uncle Buck
October 11th, 2008, 07:18 PM
Great run for the TD, very strong

October 11th, 2008, 07:44 PM
Maine will start the second half from the 15 after a holding penalty.
Brusko still in, Farkes will not return.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 07:50 PM
Maine punts from the 31, Delaware will start from their 25.
Maine essentially running a high school offense with Brusko in there.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 07:51 PM
Schoenhoft shaken up for UD
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 07:53 PM
Misses only one play.
Uncle Buck
October 11th, 2008, 07:53 PM
I don't think Brusko looks horrible, he seems very athletic. Got hosed on that spot last posession, should have been a first down.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 07:57 PM
God, Maine is embarrasingly bad on 3rd down defensively.
3rd and 14 goes for about 30, talk on a facemask and it's first and goal at the 9.
Brusko looks okay as long as Maine doesn't attempt any of those forward passes.
ccd494
October 11th, 2008, 07:58 PM

October 11th, 2008, 08:05 PM
Great play, Maine has 4th and 4 on the UD 35, line up to go for it but Brusko pooch punts inside the UD 1.
Delaware takes over.
bobbythekidd
October 11th, 2008, 08:06 PM
yahoo says tied 10-10. Is that correct?
Uncle Buck
October 11th, 2008, 08:07 PM
I like the pooch kick, but i didn't like the QB draw call on 3rd down. I would have tried to run something off tackle or get him on the edge. Maine's d has to come up big now.
Longhorn
October 11th, 2008, 08:07 PM
Turcotte's a bull.
Agreed. He is a stud. He played very well against JMU last week too. The Dukes just couldn't tackle the guy, and he has some speed to go with his size and strength. Only a RF, if he stays healthy he has a chance to do some real damage in and outside the CAA.
Uncle Buck

I've got no problem with the first hit that he did because of what you said(defending the QB) but when he got back up and the defender was lying face down, you do not go back at him. There is no defense to that.

Congrats Maine, that hit on the QB really fired up the team.
Why can't someone lay a hit like that on our QB??? :p
Seriously though the last two games have been dreadful performances by UD. It's shocking to see just how much the play of this team has deteriorated over the past two weeks. The QB play was the problem but now it's much more than that. The entire offense has regressed tremendously and I'm afraid that a QB change will now be too little.. much too late. However.. a change has to made if only to determine if either of UD current backups have to ability to lead the team in '09. 2008 is already lost.. it's time to start working on 2009.

Agreed, the wheels have come off the henhouse and there is little left to play for this season except pride and the off chance of playing spoiler, but its hard to see how this team is going to beat anybody in the caa except maybe towson on nov. 8th.

Maine looked good last night, they played very physical but also got a little help from the UD QB making some really bad decisions.
As for UD...they won't have to wait until Nov. 8th for a win, they'll probably still beat Hofstra on the 25th.
Now...i just hope Maine is in for a letdown on the 18th!

Time to bring back the paper bag over the head avatar, Chickenman.

I guess Schoenhoft "rode the pine" at Ohio State for a reason.xrolleyesx That guy has the worst in-game playmaking judgment of any Blue Hen QB I've ever seen. Keeler should start Ritacco next week...but he probably won't.xcoolx
And cue Harry Doyle: " That's all we got? 14 g.d. rushing yards?? Ah, the h!ll with it!"xmadx xsmhx

IF Maine can keep getting defensive pressure on the quarterback, and IF they can get healthy, and IF they catch a few breaks against either UMass or UNH, and IF they can keep that play action working, and IF the run defense keeps flying to the ball.... this team might be playoff eligible.

I didn't believe the score when I read it in today's paper. Delaware has to right the Hen House this week in an attempt to salvage the season. It's not that they lost a game. It's who they lost too. xeekx xeekx xeekx

Congrats Maine. My first game at the Tub this year. Very disappointing. All three picks were bad choices. Honestly, he threw at least two other completions that he was lucky weren't picked off. I guess what I don't understand is that going into the season opener, Keeler said the QB race was neck and neck. If it was that close and RS is now an INT machine, WTF is Keeler waiting for to give Lou a chance? xconfusedx
I'm sure it's been said on this thread, but that hit on the QB was one of the most vicious hits I've seen in person since 2003 (Sambursky - SIU). The one downside is I had flashbacks to the UNH opener in 2004 when a little known freshman was pushed into action when the Hens knocked out their all-conference starter and started an incredible four year career. xoopsx

It was my first game in attendance this season also.
..and it will be my last!
I will not pay money to watch that again.
And Keeler refuses to change.

I appreciate the kind words about our team, especially from the UD contingent. It's a shame that some of you chose to boo your own team -- these guys aren't pros -- but I know that frustration.
There was a lot of cautious optimism about this Maine team going into this year. I wasn't so sure about it, but a close game with JMU, and now this win makes me a bigger believer, especially seeing (via CN8's webcast) the tough pressure from The Black Hole (Maine D) and the way Brusko stepped up. These guys have improved a lot over the last year.
Maine's next three games are at home: Hofstra, Northeastern, and Iona. With all due respect to the opposition, these are all winnable games for Maine, which could possibly mean a 6-3 record (3-2 CAA) before a showdown at UMass. The next four weeks will tell if this team truly is a playoff contender.

Who was it who committed the personal foul?

I have mixed emotions on that one. I didn't boo, but sure felt like it. Directed at the offense in general... that means coaches too. They may not be pros, but they do receive a lot of value via scholarships. People pay for parking, for tickets, for merchandise... we cheer them loudly when they do well, we cheer loudly to help out the defense (the NEZ has become the loudest section in the Tub once the kids leave after one quarter)... why is not OK to boo?
BTW, I did yell very loudly at the refs once (embarrassed Mrs89). After Maine's QB scored on the option he threw the ball 20 feet in the air... that's an automatic penalty this year, no judgement allowed. The Backjudge was maybe 15 feet from me and I gave him an earful. :o :D

You're probably right, but that has to be the worst rule in college football. I can certainly see penalizing taunting, but not celebrating. Celebrating is positive; taunting is negative. It should be that simple.
Besides, perhaps the men in stripes are a little more aware of the penalty ever since the BYU/UW game, or maybe they got a directive to lighten up.
Don't sleep on Northeastern
Indeed. The Huskies always give my boys in blue a hard time.

Absolutely correct, a terrible rule. Sometimes you have to let kids get excited, it's an emotional game and like the BYU/UW game, i don't think it was meant to be taunting so i like the no call. Though Bainsey may be right, there was a lot of heat for that call and they may have been told to use their judgement.
