I expect a tough game from NU tomorrow. I also expect Northeastern to hang around but I believe UMass plays a solid game tomorrow and comes out with a win. Winning score could be 1-14 points. Good weather tomorrow, short trip for us. Hopefully the defense shows up..I'm expecting some wierd trick plays from NU as they have been doing some all season.
Game is covered by Comcast, and it is on Direct TV channel 630!! I had to buy the sports pack package for 11 bucks for the game and the whole month. Get Richmond/JMU right afterwards!!
Parson's is a tough trip...I still have some turf burns from the old cement turf they use to have..

Don't worry. We aren't over-looking Herb Donaldson and company at all! I just had to throw in my support for Rocky H (grew up watching him coach the Bison). Good luck to both teams,...UMass should win. Not predicting score...

I can't wait for this one. Northeastern is a lot tougher this year than their record shows but it'll feel more like a home game for UMass.
Anyone else going to be there?

There are a few NU fans that would like to see him back out in ND...
Good luck against WIU. That should be a benchmark game for you guys for the rest of the season. I don't think NDSU loses at home against WIU either...

Northeastern at home always scares me.
I was thinking about coming and then going to the UMass hockey game over at BU but decided to stay home and go to the Devils home opener tonight.

NU has switched sidelines this season, so UMass is opposite the press box. The visitors have the bigger side of the stands.

Frustrating turnovers and penalties . . . Coen looked shaky for the second straight week . . . Broomfield is a heck of a player for NU . . . Just relieved to escape with a win . . . Not getting my hopes up about the Richmond game next week.

Saw the game live. NU blew this game on a fumble and some VERY, VERY, VERY strange play-calling. In essence, the followed UA's game plan: misdirections and run it down UMASS's throat. Then, conservative in the 2nd half.
I am of the belief you have to keep going at UMASS once up- the offense is way too potent.
UMASS couldnt stop a run if they tried at times...and I am still FAR from convinced Coen is an NFL prospect. He is good...but no that good.
UMASS escapes a very packed Parsons field today (4800-5000 if I had to guess). NU is much better than 2-4. MUCH!

Congrats to Tony Nelson of Massachusetts who ran for 193 total yds and a TD today. Also nice game from Coen 265 yds in the air and ran for 27 as well.
NU is a damned good football team and they are quite capable of running the table the rest of the way. Yes - they are that good. UNH will have their hands full next week at Parsons.

What I said on the Umass board basically:
Good hard fought win against probably NU's best team since the Brown days. Not pretty, and the officiating was awful. Both teams had gripes.
I thought it was going to be a long day when Broomfield cut through our D on their first drive like butter. But our defense stepped up in the 2nd half. Broomfield seemed to be getting 5, 6 yards a pop in the first half it then 2 or 3 in the second half. Tony Nelson on the other hand, did the opposite. He got stronger later in the game and ripped off a few huge runs late (he had 175 and might have 200 but a 30 yarder near the end was called back by like UMass' 5th or 6th holding penalty) .
Coen was good but not great. Two more turnovers in the end zone (ugh).
4155 was the official attendance and UMass fans way outnumbered NU fans.

Thanks Sam Adams, I think we have a great team but wins are so hard to come by. The problem now is NU gonna be able to bounce back after such a tough loss. Hey we all know Parsons is tiny and attendance sucks, but there is no other field where you can get that close to game action. I think NU and Umass have put the bad rivalry between the two schools behind and turned it into a respectfull one.

I was impressed with NU too. Their front 7 on defense are tough. Good penetration up front, good tacklers. Broomfield is terrific. Good speed and cutting ability, but like I said above I thought he got tired late. Plus, wasn't NU without TE Mandeville? He's a difference maker. Will he be back for UNH?

Good close game. NU just can't seem to get over the hump against UMass.
Tilldog40
October 11th, 2008, 05:09 PM
Mandeville won't be back for UNH, but we got great play from our back up tight ends today. I agree how good broomfield was, but your right he got gassed at the end. He is a great play maker but he was involved too much and couldn't win it all himself. Both Teams penalties killed them today, but that was one of the best games I have seen in a while. Good Luck the rest of the way.

The game went just like I thought—hard hitting, one or two turnovers would change the game. Broomfield was great in the first half—but he wore down by the end of the game. The refs were bad for both teams.
Coen is just flinging the ball—he could've been intercepted at least four times by my count.
I agree the rivalry has turned much more respectful. A lot of the players on both teams played with or against each other in high school.
I can't wait to see NU beat up on UNH!xthumbsupx
Did anyone else feel the announcing team sucked—at least it was on tv...

ya the tv guys sucked. I don't know if we are gonna beat up on UNH but thanks for the wishful thinking. I think a win is in sight though.

Coen was good but not great. Two more turnovers in the end zone (ugh).
Three if you count the turnover on downs at the goal line. How many scoring chances have we squandered in the last two games? We're fortunate that Delaware and Northeastern didn't have better days.
4155 was the official attendance and UMass fans way outnumbered NU fans.
Either that number is way too low or Northeastern is full of crap when they say Parsons seats 7000. No way that place was only 60% full. There were little gaps here and there but both the home and visitors sides had people end zone to end zone. I'd say it was 85-90% capacity, the majority being UMass fans.

No thats about right, I was there when it was a sellout 2 years ago against UNH. You couldn't move and they stopped letting people in but people were hopping the fence to get in. There was probably 10, 0000 people at that game, according to the paper.
Dane96
October 11th, 2008, 06:30 PM
There are only 4500-5000 permanent seats at Parsons. That is a correct number.
