Even talks about the fact that "I-AA" is Division I. Quotes Tommy Tubberville as saying Auburn was lucky to beat the Moutaineers in 1999.
And...OK...I'll say it...my name last name is "Veazey." "StOnge" was my father's name before he was adopted. I actually gave him a whole lot of information on historical performance of I-AAs vs. BCS teams but he said the sports staff at the Advocate didn't want to get into that much detail.

I've kind of been surprised in that Appalachian State has not been getting the kind of dimissing lack of respect I expected. I was listening to sports talk radio yesterday and most of the callers felt Appalachian State is a lot better than North Texas. I mean, everybody expects the Tigers to win and most think it'll be by a comfortable margin...but it's clear that they recognize that the "I-AA" designation doesn't mean the Mountaineers are going to be the easiest game on their schedule.
I don't know if it's a good thing though. Might be better for their chances of being competetive if the Tigers were immersed in a community talking about how easy this week's game will be.
I think LSU really is very talented. I think they've had some trouble adjusting to a new coaching staff so they have kind of underahieved in that they're not undefeated right now and some of their victories were more difficult than they otherwise might've been. I think they've got as much team speed as anybody in college football. They've made a lot of mistakes...a lot of penalties and turnovers. Hopefully, from Appalachian State's standpoint, they'll continue that pattern for at least one more week!

He was right about the Auburn game and the App fans enjoyed the chance to show we could compete THAT season. Fortunately for us, Auburn was in the midst of a major rebuilding year and the Apps were enjoying a 7-1 SoCon season.
Most of us hope we can merely escape Baton Rouge without an embarrassing margin and no injuries, anything better from that game is gravy. The real focus is to come out with AT LEAST a share of the SoCon championship on the way to a good play-off berth.
