In the first annual AGS MLB awards, Joe Maddon of Tampa Bay and Lou Piniella of Chicago easily won the awards for Manager of the Year.
In the American League, Maddon unanimously won the award after leading the Tampa Bay Rays to its first ever division title and playoff appearance. Mike Scioscia was second and Ron Gardenhire third.
In the National League, Piniella received six of the eight first place votes and easily defeated Philadelphia's Charlie Manuel who was named on just seven ballots. Joe Torre finished third in his first season leading the Dodgers.
