Great West Players of the Week from Week No. 6
For the first time this season, there was a two-time winner in the player of the week awards as Southern Utah punter Trevor Ward did the trick with a solid day vs. Youngstown State to earn his second Special Teams Player of the Week honor. UC Davis won on the final play of the game at it was this week’s Offensive Player of the Week who played a big part in the win over Northern Colorado. Wide receiver Bakari Grant hauled in a “Hail Mary” pass with no time left on the clock among his six catches for the night to give the Aggies a 34-20 victory. Another player whose touchdown resulted in the winning points won the defensive honor, as defensive tackle Aaron Fernandez picked up a fumble and rambled 54 yards for a score in Southern Utah’s 14-7 win over Youngstown State.

Offensive
WR Bakari Grant - UC Davis (6-4, 195, Jr., Oakland, Calif.)
Bakari Grant caught eight passes for 86 yards, but none of them were bigger than the 38-yard TD pass he hauled in from Greg Denham as time expired lifting UC Davis to an exciting 34-30 win over visiting Northern Colorado. Grant went up and came down with the pass amongst four defenders just past the goal line. UC Davis had lined up for a 50-yard field goal attempt with 9 ticks left two plays earlier but was called for a false start and brought the offense back out instead. After an incomplete pass, Denham heaved the ball into the end zone and Grant came down with the winning reception. Grant had six of his catches and 82 of his yards in the second half as UC Davis came back from a 27-14 deficit.
