SDSU did what good teams do, they found a way to win when they were not playing their best ball. Here is a story about this historic come from behind win:

Jacks familiar with thrilling rallies

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - South Dakota State is no stranger to the comeback trail, having erased second-half deficits of 22 points or more three times in less than two calendar years - all on the road. The Jackrabbits also crawled out of a pair of 24-point holes early in the 12-year tenure of coach John Stiegelmeier.

But this - beating Stephen F. Austin 50-48 on Saturday after trailing 34-6 with less than six minutes remaining in the third quarter - seems to rank as the most remarkable Jackrabbit rally.

The 28-point margin is the largest overcome in the 111-year history of the football program, according to the SDSU sports information department. It marks the biggest comeback by a member of the Missouri Valley Football Conference in the 25-year history of that league, and is seven points shy of the all-time record within the Football Championship Subdivision. . . . Largest comeback in 111 years of JACKRABBIT FOOTBALL! xeekx xeekx

What a thrilling game to watch on channelsurfing.net!

Very few Rabbit fans (Rabid being one xrolleyesx ) knew about the video feed of this until Catbob xbowx xbowx pointed me to the site.

How does one find the broadcast available prior to the day of game?

58 points between the two in less than a quarter and a half? Did both defenses go home at some point in the third quarter?

A little further in the story:

. . . Down five starters and getting torched for much of the night by a Texas Tech-style attack, the Jacks defense came up with four interceptions - all by players that began the day with zero for their careers. Plus, redshirt freshman defensive end Jake Steffen made a 12-yard return of a short kickoff that gave SDSU the ball at its 44-yard line to start the winning drive. . . .

Of the five defensive starters, 2 are our starting safties, we need to get healty. Things have gotten so bad with injuries for SDSU that one of the Assistant Coaches wives got hurt on this trip. xeekx

Rabbits had 4 interceptions in the first 3 plays in a series by SFA at the end of 3rd/beginning of 4th. Average start for the 3 SDSU possessions was SFA 15 yd line! Tough to keep Rabbits buried when start in red zone.

Defense didn't get chance to play for 7 SFA 4th qtr points, as was a 94 yd KO return.

The last drive by SFA was created by their Tx Tech Spread Offense, which had been VERY EFFECTIVE in the first half.

Time of possession in the 2nd half was like 23 min Rabbits/7 SFA. So the last Rabbit possession, yes the SDSU weight advantage vs SFA D gave Berry time to find his open targets, and to use the strength of Minett to make the 56 yd drive in the last 40 seconds of the game.

Nice comeback SDSU. Overcoming a 24 point deficit in 21 minutes doesn't happen very often.

Q. The most amazing thing about comeback?
A. It wasn't against Cal Poly.*

* Both SDSU and NDSU have come back from 22 pts down to beat the Mustangs in the last two years... no idea how because a) Cal Poly is a very good team and b) Cal Poly's offense should be a great one to keep a lead.

Both teams showed a lot of heart and class.

The faint of heart need not apply to the JackRabbit Nation. With huge comebacks and blowing a big lead two weeks ago just to stop a two point conversion to win, it is hard on the avg. fans ticker and keeps the liquids flowing. Major injuries on defense along with injuries to the "O"-line and what was once a very deep running back postion. I says these boys have done a remarkable job to be where they are at.

Two big games the next two weekends with McNeese State and Cal Poly coming to town, no rest in site.
