Montana is coming of their 6th NCAA tourney appearance where they played UW tough. We lost our best player (Kamaar Davis) but return a pretty solid group. I suspect will finish near the top & content for the BSC title with Montana St. How does your team stack up this year?

Young, possibly 4 Freshmen starters and a Juco.

Season opener against Minnesota on 11/18, should be fun.

Lots of questions for the Kats, but since 1999...best team in SLC play and out of conference and best overall -- according to record, atleast.

If holes are filled, Kats should be top four as is expected. If they get some bigger performances from the new kids on the block, a top two would not surprise...

You beat me to it TT. :)

We have some good players, we'll just have to see what BM does with them. Ryan Bright will be a guy to watch out for!

The 2005-06 Bearkats
Young talent ready to shine !
September 30, 2005

During the past seven seasons, no Southland Conference team has been a more consistent winner than Sam Houston State University.

Since 1999, Coach Bob Marlin’s Bearkats have won more games than any other rival in the 11-team league. The Kats won Southland titles in 2000 and 2003, finished third in 2005, fourth in 2001, and fifth in 2004. They won the SLC post-season tournament in 2003 and reached the semifinals in 2000, 2001, and 2005, producing 10 players who have earned All-SLC honors a total of 16 times. That includes two SLC “Players of the Year.”

We're last in Division I in attendance and picked middle of the pack in the Patriot League. :(

Care to ask about Hockey instead? :D

I wouldn't be so down on this year's team. Despite that pitiful home attendance, the team peformed well at Cotterell Court. We already knew they could shoot the ball well, but now the Raiders have regained an inside presence with the re-addition of the Chones brothers to the roster. In a league with Bucknell and Holy Cross, it'll be difficult for Colgate to win the regular season or tournament titles, but they are a more complete team then they have been.

Boring... a .500 team, middle of the pack in the CAA, declining attendance. :(

Our women's team is amazing. :) Our coach has over 600 wins, and has something like 16 tournament berths. Most people don't care about women's hoops, but it is fun to watch when they are as good as the Lady Griz.

Our women's coach has over 600 wins and is in the basketball Hall of Fame.
Their attendance has matched the mens, if not better.
I smell another Bison vs Griz matchup. :)

Lehigh returns a good nucleus from last year's team that lost to Holy Cross by 4 in the league semi-final at Holy Cross. They've added some good freshman, including our first 7 footer--but whether they'll contribute at all this year is questionable. PL coaches and SIDs picked Lehigh 3rd in preseason poll behind Bucknell and Holy Cross. Challenging OOC games, including trip to Villanova in December. League appears fairly competive. BU and HC clearly the favorites, but Lehigh, American, Navy and Colgate could win on AGN. Lafayette and Army have rebuilding issues from what I hear.

Lost our best player (Nate Lofton) to the Globetrotters, but return Ricky Woods who was the Southland Conference Newcomer-of-the-Year and MVP of the SLC Tournament.

A new coach (Jim Yarbrough), who spent six years at College of Charleston with John Kresse. We have a tough non-con schedule (at St. Mary's, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Auburn all on the road) and SLC slate as well.

Should be pretty good on the Men's side, you will be able to watch us as our first two games of the season will be on ESPNU. We open with Kentucky at Rupp and either take on Northern Colorado or Lipscomb the next night in the Guardians Classic. The Women are talking about a WNIT invite (not NCAA playoff eligible until '08-'09). They won the D-II Championship in '03. Last year they went 21-7 with wins over University of Kentucky, Oklahoma State, Alabama, and Middle Tennessee St. just to name a few.

From a fan stand point we just added $3 million dollars worth of Scoreboards to Frost Arena (Cap 9,000) which should be fun. Here are a few pics from Midnight Madness Minus Two.

Young, but should put up a fight in the Big West, even though we aren't full members yet. From what I have head, 2007-08 is going to be the year for UC Davis hoops. Coach Gary Stewart knows how to recruit and keep talent. Going to be a fun time for all UC Davis sports!

We'll see. I was in school for the Adonal Foyle days, and it was awesome to see that support. I think we need something big to happen to get people interested.

I also think the verdict is out on the Chones brothers, and the team as a whole. We've played some nice games, but the consistency just isn't there. Don't get me wrong, I will be cheering them on - I'm just not holding my breath while doing so!

UNI has a top 30 team this year and will crack the top 25 polls at some point.

I remember the Minnesota State Basketball tourney with Eric Crawford guarding Joe Mauer(Minnesota Twins). Mauer was the best basketball player in the tourney, Crawford second. Great player.

Our coach will be in the hall of fame, he was the eighth fastest ever to reach 600 wins. Our women also out sell our men. I would be fine with that matchup taking off, though.

Western Kentucky definitely cares about women's basketball considering that in one publication (Street & Smith's), I believe, has the Lady Toppers ranked 25th.

Texas State sucks. We haven't been worth a damn since our current coach got here, BUT they gave him a contract extension. Go figure.

Have a chance at the NCAA tourney this year, probabaly our best returning team since my frosh year. Cbssportsline has Temple gaurd Mardy Collins ranked as the #1 PG in the country. Espn.com also has us ranked #30 i believe. Prior to my arrival at Temple in the fall of 2001 Temple had made 18 straight NCAA appearances and was comming off an Elite 8 loss to Michigan State. As my luck would have it, we have not reached the NCAA's in my 4 years on Broad Street. :bang: Thankfully i'm on the 4 1/2 year plan so i can stake claim this year if we make it.

How does your team stack up this year?

If you want to form your own opinion, just tune into ESPNU. ESPNU has picked up the Jacks game against Illinois. That means that SDSU will be on National TV three times in the month of November.

Nov. 13th - Kentucky
Nov. 14th - Lipscomb or Northern Colorado - TBD
Nov. 18th - Illinois

Go State! :D
