The Yankess put on a great show when they closed down the stadium that Ruth built, but what happend to Joe Torre? Not even a mention?
Joe will be in the playoffs this year. Good for him.

This just made me think, Yankee fans on the board, looking back (I know 20/20), did the Yanks make the right decision in offering Torre a contract that was lower than last years contract but incentive laden or should they have offered him what he was offered last year?
If I am Torre, I am fine with how things worked out (except for the NY experience if he wanted to be there) because I have a boss who has to be easier to work for than my previous boss (the Steinbrenners) but is still willing to spend money on the team to try to make it successful.

I was disappointed Torre wasn't there. He should have been. I would have liked to see Zimmer too. Who knows what would be of the Yankees today had they not had the late 90's run.

They likely wouldn't be building the new ballpark, that's for sure
Obviously Torre wasn't able to make it (he's got something else going on ;)), but it would have been nice to recognize him and other great Yankee managers. They did make mention of Huggins, McCarthy and Stengel, but they were part of that "actor" group out in CF during pregame, representing the Opening Day lineup. Other than that though there wasn't much mention of past Yankee managers. Girardi and Billy Martin were named, but as players. Probably would have been a bit creepy to bring out an actor representing Torre, given he's still very much alive xeekx
There's reason to believe that Torre is still a bit upset at the way his time with the Yankees ended, and I can't say I really blame him. Sure, he had been showing some complacent tendencies in his last couple of years (bullpen management being the biggest weakness) but overall his body of work was good. The incentive contract was not a good offer. He wanted years, not money

I think the Yankees make the playoffs if they had brought back Torre. He has a way with the players. The Yankee front office, with all their class, acted very petty by not recognizing Torre's accomplishments. They are stung by how things have worked out this year. That's unfortunate.

There's no way Torre would have been there invited or not, he has responsibility right now to the Dodgers and they had a game Sunday. Had it been earlier in the season or had the Dodgers already clinched a playoff spot or were solidly out of the playoffs, perhaps he makes the trip, but not while he has a job to do fighting for a playoff spot.

That's not the point. There was no mention of Torre. Like he doesn't exist. Buck Showalter got a mention! xsmhx

He should have been mentioned, and Clemens should have been mentioned too.
