View Full Version : NFL Suicide Pool Help!

I'm not a big NFL guy but I got in this suicide pool this year. Its a good deal - $50 with over 3,000 people in the pool which makes the total purse over $150,000. Anyway, the basic premise of a suicide pool is that you pick a team to win each week and once you pick a team once you cannot use them the rest of the season.

Last week I took Pittsburgh because I didn't think there would be a chance I'd ever use them again. It worked. Last week was really good for me too as almost 1500 were eliminated because of the upsets.

So, my question is if you had to pick a team this week to win (straight up, no spread) but it was going to be the only time you could pick them the whole season, who would it be?

I'd go with Tampa this week, I don't see Atlanta starting off 2-0 and Ryan could have a tough time against that D.

Suicide pool is tough, the only bit of advice I would offer is don't worry about using a team too early. You don't want to gamble on a team that's not that good over someone you are comfortable with.

I like the NY Giants. St. Louis looked absolutely horrid against the Eagles and the Giants will lose their share of games this year IMO.

A very tempting one is KC over Oakland. Both suck and it may be one of KC's few wins this year.

But please don't go on my advice. xpeacex

Even though I think Tampa Bay is a mediocre team this year, I think they will get a lot of pressure on Atlanta's rookie QB and should win that game at home. You then can scratch an average team off your list.

You don't want my advice. I took the Colts at home against the Bears last week. xdohx

Yeah well, about 700 people took that in my poll also. xnodx

If the Pats would have lost there would have only been about 300 people left. That would have been nice.

There were 19,800 people in my pool (the 610WIP suicide pool), there are about 11,000 left.

Good luck the rest of the way.

Thanks guys. My preliminary gut feeling was to go with Tampa or KC.

I think Tampa is looking better and better.

Thanks

I'd go with the black and silver.

Last week I took the Jets, this week am going with the Giants in my pool. Hate using Giants this week because it looks like they may be good this year but I don't trust a lot of other teams yet (both positivie and negative way) and St. L looked that bad

Surprised that this crowd has not made a Vince Young joke yet (or is it too soon?)

Take Arizona over Miami. xnodx xnodx xnodx xnodx

You don't want to be left with AZ when they're playing Philly, the Cowboys, etc. xeyebrowx

I would also think about Seattle.

I don't know, they looked really, really bad against Buffalo. And they have their top 4 WR out and others on the line and at RB. Though I did think of that game as well.

I was going to post that exact same thing.

I agree with AZGriz... take advantage of bad team playing a God-awful team.

i'd go with Seattle or Arizona.

Arizona seems like a VERY dangerous bet.

I'd stick with Tampa or KC

Well to win a suicide pool you have to pick a bad team beating an even worse team at some point to get through the year. And KC sucks hard.

I don't think Oakland is any better. They got slaughtered by Denver on Monday, while KC almost won their game.

Careful picking TB. Griese will be starting, Garcia has a bad ankle.

KC - says Thigpen will be getting reps this Sunday. I think Croyle is hurt.

Trust me, take the surest thing. That's the key to these things. A lot can happen down the road to make a bad team good or vice versa. To me that would mean take the Giants this week. The Dolphins aren't horrible and almost took down the Jets. Tampa is starting Brian Griese and if there's one thing Atlanta can do it's rush the passer with John Abraham. Oakland looked like they could run the ball and I wouldn't touch their game with KC.

Agreed. Also as AZ said take...AZ over MIA. If you stick between those two for awhile you should be good, until you have to pick them to win...xeekx

This is a hard week, none really jumped out at me. I took the Cards in one and the Seahawks in the other.

Precisely. Like I said, take the black and silver.

And they dominated the game 28-6. And you would have had one less crappy team to have to select from at the end of the year.

KC is clearly the worst team in the league this year. I'd take their opponent in a suicide pool many weeks this year.
