There's speculation flowing around Gillette Stadium that the Patriots maybe close to making some sort of trade for a QB.

The speculation began when Chris Simms and Tim Rattay we're informed the situation had changed and they were no longer needed for a tryout or physical.

Travis, where you getting this information? I just put a big chunk of money on picking up Cassel in my fantasy footballleagues blind auction. I have until tonight to pull it back.

Andy,
Travis was dead on with the Manny trade even before ESPN was on it.

For whatever that's worth.

I was under the impression that Bellicheat's offense was extremely complex and took years to master. Is there a QB out there who's played for Bellicheat before and would be able to come in and pick up the offense quick enough to be effective?

An NFL.com blogger and Pats beat writer for the Boston Globe mention that they two QBs were pretty much told to leave as soon as they arrived at Gillette yesterday being told the situation has changed and they were no longer needed, the NFL.com blogger suggests a trade maybe in the works which makes the most sense outside of them focussing on another FA QB.

In any case Cassel is the QB for atleast the next several weeks while the schedule is easy and a new QB is learning the playbook.

If Cassel plays very effective over that time he likely keeps the job, if he struggles the new QB will take over.

yesterday I thought there was no chance of this, but today I could see it as more possible, still unlikely, but possible.

Oh and for the record, it's not REAL money I layed on the Cassel bid. I'm not an idiot.

I'd still like to know.

C-Pepp has thrown to Moss before.

The Manny trade had been reported on many blogs before ESPN.

One Boston writer said Culpepper would be one of the worst possible choices... He the corrected himself and said it was the worst possible choice.

Thanks dude.

I waited too long on Farve and he got taken leaving me with Vince Young (who is having a mental breakdown as we speak) Tarvaris Jackson and GD'ed Pennington as my QBs. WEAK! The rest of my team is very strong.

I'm figuring to stay with the bid on Cassel and then handcuff whomever they trade for.

You can have Gus Ferotte too. I think our 3rd stringer, John David Booty, would be better than both of them.

Brady Quinn maybe? He has the Weis connection and the Browns have to do something with that situation eventually.

I think they should make an offer for Kurt Warner, Arizona has to get Matt Leinert in there, but its hard to do with Warner there.

I agree; Warner would be an ideal single-season fill-in: he's experienced, he's accurate, and he can throw the deep ball to Moss. He's also fragile, but he'd be playing behind a much better O-line than what he's got in Arizona.

Haha, I was gonna say, Cardinals fans are probably in no rush to finally go with Leinart for good.

FWIW, Phil Simms was on Mike Francesa's radio show yesterday saying that he's not sure how Leinart beat out Matt Cassel for the starting job at USC--he said that Cassel is the more talented QB of the two.

The Vikings should offer them a 2nd round pick with the stipulation that they have to take Tarvaris and Ron Howard too for uh.... Matt Walsh.

No more ridiculous than thinking the Cards would entertain offers for Warner at all...

If the Pats called and offered a 1st rounder and a mid rounder for him Arizona would jump at it.

They would if it was a 1st rounder for Kurt Warner (especially with a guy making big $$$ riding the bench behind him)...

EDIT: Please don't do it, Pats!
