UCA Takes Two of Three SLC Weekly Football Honors

FRISCO, Texas – Central Arkansas has claimed two of the three Southland Conference weekly football awards, the conference office announced Monday. Bears’ defensive end Larry Hart was named the league’s defensive player of the week, while teammate Pieri Feazell, a safety, was named the player of the week on special teams. Texas State wide receiver Cameron Luke was named the conference’s offensive player of the week. Each school’s sports information director nominates and votes for the players of the week, though is not permitted to vote for his own player.

Offensive Player of the Week

Luke led Texas State with season highs of six receptions, 121 receiving yards and three touchdown receptions in the Bobcats’ 47-36 loss at SMU. His 121 yards marks the first time this season and sixth time during the past two years that he has recorded 100 receiving yards. His three touchdowns also are the third time in his collegiate career that he has caught three TD passes in a game. His final touchdown catch against SMU was a season-best 31-yard reception. The senior from Klein, Texas, has recorded four touchdown receptions in the first two games this season after setting school records of 60 catches for 1,035 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2007.

Larry Hart, Central Arkansas

Defensive Player of the Week

In a 24-21 home win over UC Davis, Hart tied the UCA record with three sacks (-17 yards), forced a fumble and broke up a pass, along with five solo tackles. The junior defensive end from Madison, Miss., helped UCA hold UC Davis to a net of 11 rushing yards on 20 carries. In two games, Hart has three of the team’s four sacks and three of the team’s nine tackles for loss. In two games this season He has six total tackles.

Pieri Feazell, Central Arkansas

Special Teams Player of the Week

Feazell blocked two punts to set a school single-game record in the Bears’ 24-21 home win against UC Davis last Saturday. His first block gave UCA the ball at the UC Davis 33 early in the first quarter and his second led to a UCA field goal and a 17-0 lead in the third quarter. The junior safety from Mt. Olive, Miss., also had four tackles and two breakups. In two games this season, Feazell has eight total tackles and has broken up two passes.

Honorable Mention: Karrington Bush, Texas State.

2 of the 3! What an accomplishment! I'm guessing UCA's multiple empty trips in the red zone cost nathan his second OPOW. Oh well, looks like its gonna be a dogfight in the SLC this year! xthumbsupx
