Does the Mets sweep of the Brewers put the wildcard back in play?
Brewers - 80-59
Mets - 79-61
Phillies - 76-63

Yes. The Brewers still have to play 4 games in Philadelphia.

And 6 against the Cubs.

And Sheets is injured, they say not serious but his history isn't good. And the Brewers stumbled down the stretch last year, too. It's definitely in play.

The Mets are hot right now. I'll take a wild card if I can get it, but I'm thinking that the Phils will have to win the NL East to get in.

Sure the Brewers are struggling, but the Phils haven't shown any real gusto to sieze that opening. Potentially losing 2 out of 3 in Washington isn't the sign of a team ready to go after any playoff position.

Phils trying to hurt themselves the Mets way. (Relief Pitchers blowing the lead) Nats are incredible in Septembers.

HUGE weekend in NY coming up. At the very least need a 2-2 split just to keep in sniffing distance. Really need a 3-1 split...I won't dream of anything better.:o

Pretty sure it's only a three-game set. Phils do need at least a 2-1, I have to figure they will finally pitching Hamels instead of Kendrick when they have the opportunity.

To answer the OP's question: Yes, the Mets 3 game sweep of the Brew Crew puts the wild card back in place for the NL East runner up. The Brewers have 4 games in Philly and 6 against the Cubs. However, they should rack up some wins against San Diego, Cincy and Pittsburgh.
This weekend's series at Shea is 3 games and the final 3 games between the Mets and Phillies this year (barring a 1 game playoff). The Mets are 10-5 against the Phillies this year. This series is definitely important for both teams but it's probably slightly more important for Philadelphia.
Hamels has already been announced as the starter Sunday night. The pitching matchups are:
Friday: Pelfrey vs. Myers
Saturday: Pedro vs. Moyer
Sunday: Santana vs. Hamels
Pedro is banged up right now (again), so he is questionable. It's entirely possible we might see a pitching by committee approach to that game with Figueroa, Parnell, Knight and maybe Stokes seeing some time in the early innings if Pedro can't go or doesn't look good.

The 8th inning has been a house of horrors for the Phils lately. The middle relief that held up well all year is coming apart at the seams now: a combination of overwork and overrated talent. "Getting to Lidge" is the problem, and short starts by Blanton (the next Adam Eaton?) and Kendrick aren't helping matters.xsmhx

Bottom line is that Charlie can't manage. Last year the team won in part because the players liked playing for him, not so this year (i.e. Rollins).
His in game moves make no sense, he still removes Burrell too early. He took him out yesterday for a pinch runner in the 8th with the game tied. The Phillies are not a "smallball" team and they aren't situational hitters. Natuarally the pinch hitter didn't score and someone else had to bat in Burrells' spot in the 9th.
