Consideration, yes. But Carlos Quentin has got to be the front-runner at this point. Justin Morneau should be in contention again, too.
And Milton Bradley should get some serious consideration, though he's hurt by the fact that he's missed some games (plust the fact that he plays for the Rangers).

I agree Quentin is the front runner and should win it. And I was in no way asking if Pedroia should win, just if he deserves recognition on ballots.

You forgot to add, he may be the gold glove second baseman to all the above stats. Middle infielders are more important than a player like Quenting. Sure Quentin has big numbers for a left fielder, but didn't Ortiz's numbers for the past 3 years dwarf those of Quentin and he still didn't get one? If Quentin was a gold glove candidate with the same stats I would vote for him as the obvious #1 candidtate, but he is not.

Ortiz's candidacy has always been hurt by his status as a DH. If he were a serviceable first baseman (not even Gold Glove caliber, just serviceable), he'd likely have been MVP at least one of those years xtwocentsx

Ortiz hasn't played 1st because they had better defensive players for the position who could also hit. Quentin is a DH playing LF. He isn't that much better in left than Ortiz is at first The point is, if Ortiz played a bad first base, with his stats, is it possible he could have won the MVP, considering his numbers are so much better than Quentins? So, what's the difference. Just becuae he didn't play a bad first base, he is inelgible, while Quentin playing a mediocre to below average left field with smaller numbers is elgible? Doesn't make sense either way.

He is eligible, it's just a block many MVP voters have against DHs winning awards like the MVP that rely a great deal on hitting stats

Pedroia had three hits including a 3-run homer and 5 RBI to lead Boston to a 14-2 win tonight.
He now has a career high 16 HRs and 75 RBI this season. He has a great shot at 100 RBI

Pedroia homers again today and is 2-3, he will get another AB.
Also Pedroia became the first Red Sox player ever with a 5 run game, a 5 hit game and a 5 RBI game all in the same season.

Now Pedroia doubles setting the tying run at second with 1 out.

Pedroia's chances of winning the MVP drastically increased today when it was announced Carlos Quentin needs surgery on his wrist and is likely done for the season.

If Pedroia keeps up the pace hes been on the past few weeks he will become the first player since 1936 to collect 60 doubles in a season.
He also became the first Sox player since 1998 to collect 200 hits.

This poll was posted on 9/2. The season ends today.
Just wondering how many of those 14 "no" votes now want to change their votes?
If Pedroia wins the MVP, no one should be shocked.

Pedrioia should get consideration, but the guy most people miss is Joe Mauer. He took a pitching staff of youngsters and led themto a tie for the division champsionship, at least for today, in the AL Central. Nobody expected the Twins to win this many games after losing Santana, who is sitting home this post-season. And Mauer might even win the batting title again. xeekx

Mauer is a catcher, that has to be taken into consideration when comparing the two. That said, I agree both would be solid choices.
