Haven't seen an "Attendance" thread yet for week one. How many people attended your game?
49,119 attended the MD vs Delaware game at Byrd Stadium. I would guess that 8k of those were Bluehen fans.

Hour and a half - two hours. Labor Day weekend probably kept a couple thousand Bluehen fans away.

I've heard of some incidents, but my personal experience was good, in fact the best of the four times we've played them. All but one of the incidents I heard of were just verbal, but that one was a 40-ish UGA fan who was following a 20-something GSU fan down the stadium steps and pushed him down the last 6 or so. Don't know what precipitated it, but I can think of no excuse for that. Good news was that several UGA fans chased the guy down and held him for the police. I was told about this by a friend of mine who is a UGA fan and saw the aftermath, as well as my son who saw the victim as he was being attended to.

Yeah, and these numbers don't include folks who were in Athens but couldn't get tickets. The Georgia Theatre, which is two blocks from UGA's campus, was advertising that they would be showing the game live and I heard that it was full.

Forget that! I got my drink on. Got my cornhole on. Watched a great half of football, and had to endure an atrocious third quarter. I left halfway through the fourth (had to drive back to Charlotte).
I ALSO got to eat on the Duke Ath. Dept.'s dime since I got employee tickets and ate their BBQ.
First, you can't just be a fan when the team wins (you'd only go to half of The Citadel's games). Second, the game, to me, is more than just the game, it's party time!

I've been goaded.
But also considering the magnitude of this game (ie Elon better, App coming off loss, App beating Michigan); interest on both sides was higher.
Was a family weekend game, comparing to other family weekend games:
2007: 13100
2006: 9542
2005: 9875
2004: 9935
2003: 8353
2002: 10520
2001: 9360
13099 App fans at the game. I was at the game so that accounts for the -1. App can piss a larger pool. Move along.

Don't sweat it. Suffice it to say that there must have been tons of Phoenix fans wearing black and gold and cheered when App scored.;) All kidding aside, there's never an objective way to measure visiting vs home teams' crowds.
Hell, some people don't even believe total attendance when measured by scanned tickets going through the gate. xrolleyesx
The Rhodes Stadium gate for the App game was about 4-8K larger than their other home games.

UNI brought that many fans to Provo? That's pretty impressive considering the drive and BYU's ranking.

There was actually close to 1,750-2K JMU fans at the Duke game from what I've heard. There were close to 100 students packed in the first 4 rows of one of our sections. I believe there were 250 band members in attendance.

10,800 at Elon to see us drubbed by Richmond. Richmond brought a nice crowd of about 1000. Way bigger than the SoCon schools outside of The Citadel, Western and App.
Second largest crowd in Elon history. Second only to that App Game last year on Homecoming weekend.

Where did i say even one word about there being more apps than phoenix?? I just gave the total attendance figures for all Elon home games.
Just talking about the number of Apps...whatever that number might be and the loudness of that contingent.
BTW, App fans normally wear black moreso than gold. Elon posters like to point out when App home game crowds' pics are looked at for red colors that many Elon fans don't wear their colors at some games. I can't even recall what i wore..just that I sat on the second row 50 yard line.
i don't see how anybody outside of Elon fans got a real seat. Tickets for non-Elon fans weren't released until way late. Homecoming or whatever it was was given as the reason. I totally understand that.
Only reason I had a seat was I came with a season ticket holder.
Anybody who says App fans outnumbered Elon fans at Elon's own homecoming is just trying to jerk your chain. Now the first time App played at Elon since Elon joined the conf..may have been close. But very doubtful. Just doesn't happen.

12,058 for East Central @ SHSU, great for a Thursday night.
Yep, 12,058 is a good Thursday night turnout. Crowd probably could have been bigger if on a Saturday. Tough for alumni to get to Huntsville during the week, especially since school started the same week for most kids.
Bye week this week, but looking for a great crowd on the 13th against Prarie View. I am sure they will bring a good road crowd since Huntsville is only about an hour and half away. I wouldnt be suprised to see Bowers Stadium full.

That game will be played again, regardless of the attendance, this was the first year the MEAC/SWAC Challenge was played in Orlando, hopefully next year will draw more people. If the attendance is 10K again, it will probably be moved, but I'm not sure how long it will be played in Orlando.

Pick a different weekend and play it in Atlanta, I'll guarantee the crowd would be 2x as large. Better location for all involved.

Couple of things happening here. First, neither school has a large alumni base in Orlando so one should expect a small crowd.
Second, the event was billed as the best of both conferences so it will go on since TV exposure was more valuable than gate attendance.
Third, Disney is making an effort to keep people in the area when most are usually on their way out of town to get ready for school. Not a big payday for the schools and a negligible outlay for disney makes this palatable for the next two years. After that, all bets are off.

Implying that the previous facilities' record crowds were larger??? Very interesting. Otherwise "The 13,100 was the largest at Rhodes only" would be superfluos and irrelevant.

Would love to see those figures of more than 13K before Rhodes. Not mentioned in the Elon media guide. Not doubting your word or memory. It just seems like they would be proud of that.
Was it while they played at Williams High School Kernodle Stadium in Burlington's stadium? I've read where Elon playing at home in the NAIA National Championship game held there had 10K.

You won't find it in the media guides now. Outside of the NAIA championships, you won't find much information outside of general stats for pre-DI times. They call it embracing the future or something like that. They apply the same logic to anything before Rhodes stadium as far as attendance and other stadium type records.
But it would have been in Burlington Memorial Stadium, yes. Which was Williams HS Stadium after Elon payed to have it built for use by us and Burlington.

We played there once when I was in high school coaching. During Tom Eanes' short era. I recall Tom's father had been a coach at Elon Reminded me of Wingate/Monroe High's shared facility.
The stadium was about the size of our stadium except we may have had slightly more space on our visitors' side.

My High School stadium was definitely bigger also and built for a better fan experience. But, High Point College built that stadium off campus to bring back football, but never started it and sold it to HP City Schools. I thought it was an incredibly poor design that Burlington Memorial had the posts for the lights between the stands and the track.
