Ivy leader Penn visits second-place Brown in Providence on Saturday in what is likely to be any team's last shot at catching the Quakers for a share of the league title. Although I can't stand either of these teams, I'm pulling for the Bears, if only to make this a horse race.

I predict Penn dismantles them. They've got the defense to contain Hartigan.

If Penn wins, the Ivy race for all intents and purposes is over. If Brown can't topple the Quakers, then no one will.
I too am hoping for a Brown victory this Saturday to keep Yale in the race, but I just don't see it happening. Penn is just too good. I hope the Bears can prove me wrong, though.

Yep, Al Bagnoli brings in a new crop of coal [nose?] miners with sub-1000 SAT scores every year.

Pulling for Brown, also, for obvious reasons previously posted about the Quackers. Also nice to see some variety in a new champion, plus keeps the rest of the season interesting in the Ivy..I do believe it will be a close game, though, in the order of 24-21.

Nice to see a thread about an Ivy League game on this board. Doesn't happen often.

Matt Dougherty picks Brown in a "mild upset," 27-24. I'd like to see that result, but I think Penn will win by at least a touchdown.

Since the Hoya boys have a "bye" week, I get a chance to see this big Ivy matchup...just so happens that my Bruno frat bros have the annual football confab, ie BEEF MAXIMUS, prior to the game. I'll miss watching the Hoyas this weekend, but the alternative is lookin' pretty good!!!

Doesn't matter, Yale is losing to Princeton next weekend, and then it's Bonfire time in P'ton!

Nova: I believe Penn gets Princeton next week, and Yale gets Brown. Yale-Princeton is traditionally the week before Harvard-Yale (11/19 this year). If Princeton does beat Yale, it will be Princeton's first Big 3 (H-Y-P) title since the Coolidge Administration! :D

for anyone who thinks Penn is going to win, take a look at the two teams schedules. Brown is the far more accomplished team at this point. Penn hasnt played anyone! Brown has beaten some good teams.

the best team Penn has played, Villanova, beat them at home no less. Brown is better than Villanova. I realize Penn is good and may win this game, but I am surprised more people don't like Brown's chances here.

I guess we're too used to "If it's Brown, flush it down"? :D

You're right, Ivytalk, I got my weekends confused. My girlfriend was a Princeton cheerleader, so she is getting me all fired up for that game.
BTW - the last Princeton Big 3 championship was during the Clinton administration (1993) - but you were close! :D

Thank you Brown for proving me wrong! :D
Brown 34, Penn 20.
There's now a four way tie for first place in the Ivy, with Penn, Brown, Yale and Princeton all 3-1 in league play. It sets up a huge Saturday next week as Brown visits Yale and Princeton plays at Penn.
GO YALE!

Excellent win for the Bears. But the Quakers will bounce back next week at home against Princeton. The Tigers don't usually give Penn much of a game. Yale-Brown will be interesting, and those teams don't like each other!

I think the general consensus among Yalies is that Brown is the Elis second biggest rival to Harvard. Princeton? Nah, they just don't matter. And besides, we beat them just about every year. :p
Brown and Yale have had some great battles over the last decade. The last time the Bears came to the Bowl, it was a back-and-forth affair as Brown outscored Yale 55-44. Who can forget the last second hail mary Yale victory in '98 or the strange finish in '99 game where the Bears won on two-point conversion after a blocked extra point attempt costing Yale an undefeated 10-0 season.
Yeah, there's no love lost between these two teams. Should be another good one this Saturday!
