Eastern Washington @ Texas Tech Game Thread

Eastern comes in ranked 6th in most FCS polls, and Tech 12th-14th in the BCS rankings. I've heard a lot of talk from those ignorant and cocky Tech fans that they'll hang 90+ on us, but I assure you that won't happen. Both teams feature pure-passer QBs at the top of their game, however Tech's D is very questionable and will be a big factor in how we hold up against them. And with new Defensive coordinator John Graham revamping our D, our pass-rush has improved significantly. I say we get beat by no more than 4 TDs, and we put up at least 17 on Tech. What are everyone's thoughts?

Texas Tech fans are as arrogant as their head coach. Their head coach loves to run up the score and they have constantly had the explosive players to do it. They won't score 90, 100 or whatever they are saying, but they will get it in the end zone a few times...

The question is, how many points does EWU get? If EWU gets in a shootout, it could be a fun game!

Tech has a serious chip on their shoulder and won't hesitate to run the score up. I put their point total over/under at 70.

After looking at your 2008 preview, with 6 returning starters on O, and 7 returning on D, and with a bunch of guys that played alot but didn't count as starters returning, you guys are going to hang in against Texas Tech. Hopefully you have some starting db's back... Your punter and kicker are back, wich will help in a first game scenario as well. Texas Tech has played weaker FCS schools in the past and you guys are going to sneak up on them a bit. If you guys have the same calibur club as last year, TT is going to be in for a tougher game than they think. TT will not be any tougher than App. State was last year, thier QB is not as mobile as Edwards was.
UMass is playing them in a few weeks...rough them up a bit for us. Good luck..

Are you serious? As mouse mentioned, 5 teams in the top 15. OU would of been in the NC last year if Bradford hadn't been injured vs. Texas Tech. Tech could be in a BCS game this year if their defense improves. Kansas and Missouri were great last year and won their bowl games. Texas is always a threat as usual.

If you play the type of ball control west coast offense you did againest Mcneese, you can score and control the game somewhat.. The best thing to do is to not get impatient and make them get frustrated with their offense on the sidelines.

I love how they simply say that Tech missed the PAT, not that EWU didn't BLOCK it or anything. They also failed to mention EWU blocking one of their FG attempts.

Crap is still crap no matter how pleasant you make it look. Sorry UMass... I think Eastern put a little fear into Tech.

I just got back from that amazing game. Screaming Eagle, you just made me live thru it again, nice job. The Tech fans were jerks. When the skill guys can onto the field they were yelling "Middle school team!" The arrogance was unbelievable. Then we get picked off the first play and before you know it, they are up 21-0 end of first. Then the team woke up and man was it exciting. The fans started to SHUTUP! Then at halftime, they weren't saying anything. I loved it!

The second half was just as exciting. As we kept coming back, you could tell the fans were nervous. We we were driving after the punt fumble, they were QUIET, that scared quiet, I couldnt believe it. Talk about fair weather fans. But then they made some plays, including blocking the punt, which changed the momentum. But we drove and scored on a 30 yard td, but they got a gimmie TD to make it 49-24. It was a bummer because this game could have been won. Like the site says, any given Saturday.

The dropped passes were the key. Matt really held his composure as I was saying the same thing Screaming was saying in his posts. Boyce had a tough game but he will fix things for Colorado, and I'm expecting an upset.

Every TT fan I talked to said they have new found respect for Eastern Washington University. The TT players also gave their respect to our players after the game. That game showed them something and gained their respect, I was very proud of the team.

WOW! You're being nice about those b@stards! They are among the WORST fans in college football hands down, they take pride in it and have done so for decades.

They were at first but they mellowed out. They saw that Aggies loss to Ark State on the scoreboard and they thought they were next. They were humble though after the game, I will give them that. They have made numerous "congrats" post on our Rivals website. I think we gained their respect and I wont talk crap about them. They do have a great team and and exciting offense. It was an awesome game to see in person, two great offenses.

BTW the Johnson twins are studs. One TT receiver broke away and should have scored and one of the twins chased him down. They both made a bunch of tackles and had a key interception to change the momentum in the second quarter.

You picked a hell of a game to go to... I wish I could have been there. In the game quotes section I posted in the link, there's a lot about the players and Leach having a new found respect for us, and any team they play for now on. Leach laid into them after the game.

I agree though, this game could have been won. Not only those numerous dropped passes, but that fumble recovery (overturned) and two drives into the TT redzone that came away with no points.

EWash... how'd the O-line look? From the stats I know they held up pretty good, but in your view from watching them play against a much bigger team...

Both lines did great considering who we played. The OL only gave up 2 or 3sacks in 63 pass attempts so the inexperience line got a baptism by fire and held up.

TT Oline is huge and Peach and Witherspoon were in the backfield all game. I was reading their site and it mentioned the play of our lines. I couldnt believe the holds they got away with, and they even admit it on their site. I saw Peach only feet away from sacking the QB but the 360 pound lineman grabbed Peach by the facemask and pulled him to the ground.

As far as the difference in divisions, I think the line is what seperates the two. They were able to rotate linemen in and out while ours played the entire game.
