Although I agree that Illinois State has a case to be a Top 10 team, I find it rather surprsing that we are placed that high with 3 total losses. It's just that most polls, especially those in D-Ia, give higher rankings due to #of losses instead of giving too much consideration to how those losses came about or to who.. thanks collegesportsreport poll for giving deserved props to us, The Illinois State Redbirds!

GO YOU REDBIRDS ON TO VICTORY!!!!!

well, the first consideration should be the # of losses, then how those came about

Looks good to me. Glad to see UCD and PSU in the top 20.

This is not a poll, it is one person's rankings... just like yours,

Hmm.. didn't know that. thanks for the info. i know # of losses is important in the polls, but a lot of poll voters just look at that and don't consider how the team lost as much as the could/should... anywho, i'm basically happy that ISU is giving the credit we deserve and HOPEFULLY we can keep on rolling along with victories to prove the pollsters even more right

on the flip side, they also don't look at how you win, ie Furman and Coastal, so its a catch 22

Yeah Furman really needs to stop letting inferior teams who they are beating by 9 going into the 4th quarter back into the game only to have to make a comeback so Furman can win late.

None whatsoever. Totally meant every word of my post. For the first three quarters of the FU-Appy game it was clear which one was the better team. It damn sure wasn't the visitors. Appy then had a very good 10 minute period to start the 4th quarter. Furman took over after that and owned the last 5 minues. The better team won that day.

i was referring to furman's multiple close wins, not who was better or worse, don't start a fight when there isn't one to be started

Frankly, I'd rather win close than blow out every opponent. Ask GSU how much blowing out all their opponents hurts when you actually have to play 4 quarters against a good team. Hurt them last year in the FU game and the playoffs. In the FU game they didn't know how to handle themselves with the game on the line in the 4th quarter.

Our biggest problem in the prior season has been winning close games. The total of all our losses from 2004 was something like 7 points. This year we have won all those close ones. The one game we did lose, we can easily pinpoint the areas that hurt us (special teams, turnovers). Both areas which are controllable (though why we can't return a kickoff past the 20 is beyond me).

IMO, I would say top 4, but maybe not quite #1 yet. But, if TXST can shut down the #1 rushing offense in the nation, on the road, and pull out a convincing victory against Nicholls State, I like our chances of winning out and getting seeded for the playoffs.
