Kevin Curtis is the latest victim of the plague the Philadelphia Eagles just can't shake. Big Andy Reid says Curtis will be out "for a while" then says the team is not persuing other wide receivers (Anquan Boldin, Usain Bolt, Charles Johnson, my little brother). Thanks Andy. Greg Lewis and Hank Baskett will now split time opposite Reggie Brown (who's hurting as well).

Curtis actually had a good year last season (70+ catches, 1000+ yards) and this is a blow to the offense. DeSean Jackson looks promising, but rookies hardly factor into Philly's offense.

And this is what Jeffrey Lurie calls "going for it" xnonono2x

Don't kid yourselves. Lurie is not concerned with winning the Super Bowl. He understands that for the team to be financially successful, they need only be competitive enough to make the playoffs on a fairly regular basis. If winning a Super Bowl was managements top priority, it would have happened. They've always had the money to get the 1 or 2 free-agents necessary to put them over the top (well, the years they were only 1 or 2 players shy that is).

I love how Reid says he's happy with the receiving corps. I almost named my fantasy football team "Body by Reid."

Gonna be a LONG season in Philly - we'll fight out last place with the Skins.

Thank God for college football is all I gotta say. Reggie Brown & Kevin Curtis both down means really no chances of a better than .500 season.

Don't take Westbrook too high in your fantasy drafts, defenses will be all over him.

God Damm it!! I hate Andy Reid, have a freakin heart attack already so someone who doesnt run a West Coast offense can come in. Damm-- blow the whole thing up. McNabb is old and cant make it through the season, Reid refuses to get a playmaker at WR, the defense is old and small and Jim Johnson either has lost his touch or he doesnt have the players to execute his D.

Fire everyone. Hire Steve Spagnuolo as the next HC and move on. Its over for this crew as the core of the team is either too old or no good. We can keep Westbrook, some non-depressed O-linemen, and few D guys, and give Kolb a chance. They need to get younger as this team is full of guys who were great 5 years ago. Crap

Oh and did I mention Runyan sucks, Tra Thomas sucks, Winston Justice and Jean MAx-Giles couldnt block Citdog's 5' 5" confederate ass. All terrible. Patterson is about 5'11" and Bunkley only marginally better. Can we get a DT taller then me--WTF. Tent Cole is the only player on the d-line. The LB's are terminally mediocre, but the DB's are at least decent.

But hey we have Deshaun Jackson returning kicks now until he gets broken in half. He weighs 169 pounds wow

I used to feel that way. It's not that I think Reid is any better a coach now than 5 years ago. Rather, I no longer feel like getting all worked up over his arrogance/stubborness/ineptitude. I think most people would agree that Reid has had a team talented enough to win the NFC at least 5 times ('01, '02, '03, '04 and '06). However, he only made it once. Why? Preponderance of talent! The 2004 Eagles team was so much more talented than the rest of the NFC that they ran away with the division and stompped ass on their way to the Super Bowl.

But, in close games, where coaching matters, Andy Reid is the NFL's answer to Barry Alvarez. He's very predictable and prone to out-foxing himself. The best example of that would be the 2006 Divisional Playoff game against the Saints. The Birds had not effectively halted the New Orleans running game the entire day. Yet, with time running down, he chose to punt on 4th down and trusted his defense to hold N.O. and get them the ball back! HELLLOOOOO????? Were you and your sons freebasing at halftime????

That's not to say Reid will never win a Super Bowl. Look at Bill Cowher, another vastly overrated head coach. Seargent Slaughter is proof that in the NFL, even a blind squirrell finds a nut. He got his Super Bowl ring. There's a chance Reid will too if he hangs around long enough. I'm just not putting any money on it!

I'm still trying to figure out who in Philadelphia pissed off God this badly.

We now have 25 year olds who've never had a major sports championship in their lifetime here.xnonono2x

Two words: Wilson Goode

Everything started going to pot when he was elected Mayor. I wish he had ordered the Vet firebombed as well!

I'm actually upbeat about McNabb this year, i really think he is ready for a big season (for whatever reason, healthy, possible trade coming, a little redemption). Also, I can't stand the McNabb bashers. Kolb? Come on. We have no idea if this kid is Tom Brady of Bubby Brister. This is what makes the Curtis injury frustrating.

I am also optimistic that these kids at linebacker and on the D-Line can really blossom. The front office stumbles into talent more frequently than I like to admit.

And, this schedule is pretty weak. With the exception of the division games, there isn't alot of absolute no win games (not to say that the division games are, but .500 in the NFC East is not bad at all).

I don't want to suffocate everyone with optimism, but it just seems like this could be a decent turnaround year. Or at least one last hurrah. 10-6 is a definite possibility, and an Anquan Boldin (and minus Lito, and something else, draft pick?) would put them even closer. I'm sure I'm dreaming, but so were the Giants last year (you'll always be Sheli to me, Manning).

The old Philly joke from the '80s:

What's the difference between Coppertone and Wilson Goode?

One blocks burns and one burns blocks.

Eagles will have to make a move for a wr. I see Joe Horn is available, though I don't know if has enough left in the tank. I think he's 36. But someone has to be able to catch the ball and Curtis was a big part of the offense last year. He won't be back til mid October.
