Cal Poly grad Stephanie Brown Trafton won the Gold in Discus and Gina Miles won the Silver in Equestrian Eventing.

Stephanie Brown Trafton earned the gold medal in the women's discus Monday night at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China.

Brown Trafton, 28, an Arroyo Grande High School and Cal Poly graduate who currently resides in Galt, won the Olympic title with a best mark of 212 feet, 5 inches.

She reached that mark on her first throw and the rest of the 12-person field couldn't catch her. Brown Trafton was third at the U.S. Olympic Trials but had the best throw by an American this season.

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Cal Poly graduate Gina Miles of Creston won the silver medal in the eventing final of equestrian at the Olympics on Tuesday night, finishing just behind Hinrich Romeike of Germany.

thats cool the coastal grad did not qualify for the metal round in Hammer Throw

her name was Amber Campbell she was top american--she did not score on her 2nd and 3rd throws--and from what I heard her she thru it far enough on the 3rd throw just out of the zone

Actually Stephanie Brown Trafton is tall and slender. 6'4". Not like most discus throwers.

Gina Miles is very pretty.

Somebody add pictures. I can't get mine to work.

:) Na, don't add any, I saw it on TV. Pretty impressive
