...against an Israeli...

The Iranian swimmer was ordered out of the race by his delegation head because one of the competitors was an Israeli...and a damn good one...

Pathetic move by the Iranian delegation, robbing someone of something they've worked so hard for. xmadx

Ridiculous...where's the spirit of the Olympics?

The Iranian should've swam. He would've gotten dead last and that would have been the end of it...I doubt they even have an Olympic pool in the country.

Agreed. Sad to see politics interfere with sports, but sometimes it does.

The entire US team was forced to boycott Moscow in 1980 because we didn't like the host country.

I'm not saying I support the Iranian position... but I think what the US did was just as bad, if not worse. That decision cost a lot of athletes an opportunity they worked hard for.

I agree. Our decision to boycott in 1980 sucked. The athletes train to hard to be used as pawns.

Iranian swimmer Mohammad Alirezaei has pulled out of the Olympic Games on Saturday because of illness.

The 100-meter breaststroke swimmer was carried to a hospital in Beijing, according to the Iranian Swimming Federation officials.

When do the Iranian women compete? Nothing quite as "hot" as a burkini.

Add Syria...

Olympic swimmer Anna Gostomelsky broke an Israeli record on Friday when she completed the eighth heat of the 50-meter freestyle preliminaries in 25.23 seconds.

Though Gostomelsky came in first in the heat, she did not qualify for the semifinals, falling 16 milliseconds short of the 16th spot in the contest.

"I'm very pleased, not only with myself but with the whole team. We were the most brilliant team here," Gostomelsky said.

A Syrian swimmer who was due to use the lane next to Gostomelsky opted to stay out of the contest.

Hope Israel has a person in every event that Iran has a person in.
They feel that strongly about it, let them pull the entire Iran team and GTFO of the Olympic's. xsmhx

Nobody need to try and make Iran look foolish.
Them and other's like them do a good job all by themselves.xlolx
And this was dumb on their part.xsmhx

I just do not understand ***** like this. If you hate another country so much, what better way to deal with them than to kick their @$$ in athletic competition? Settling differences on the athletic field is better than settling them on the battlefield. Which is what the Olympics is really all about.

DUH!

Agreed. IMO the greatest sporting event ever:

USA 4
USSR 3

During the Cold War.

Honest to g-d one of my first sport memories...true memories ever. I remember some of the Jets, Knicks...and I was carried on the field as a baby for the Yanks titles...but I remember this so vividly.

I probably was playing with my GI JOES right before that game started (the replay). I remember my mom trying to tell me the score (If I wanted to know) and I told her to get out of the room because she would jinx it (not realizing how stupid that was at the time because it was already over).

Great sporting event moment.

And seriously Syria...wtf are you thinking. You get like 5 people to go...and then you dont compete. Stay the fwck home...and do something productive.
