Good God I hope the earth opens up and swallows both of the teams!

i think it's pretty bad that they are showing HS sports on national tv... seriously... these are high schools... they should be on cable access or local tv (like a local game of the week) but ESPN for high school games? that's pathetic.

ESPNU

Ewww...that's going to be a good game.

Don Bosco plays a ridiculous non-conference HS football schedule:

@ St. Xavier (Cin. OH)
vs. Valley Forge Military Academy
@ De La Salle (CA)

I agree, but to an extent. The problem is that the majority of these games are "made-for-national-TV" games that wouldn't have happened otherwise.

No way Don Bosco is playing De La Salle without it being on National TV. That's a great experience for the kids as long as they are treated as kids. Which is where the problem lies. ESPN sees $$$$$ and forgets they are just kids.

I'm not really for having teams criss-cross the country, but I don't see anything wrong with two local schools having a game shown on ESPN.

You won't see any Hillsborough County teams playing out of state games on TV. The county won't allow it.

I think it is very silly for high school games to be on national tv

Exactly. Concerning Byrnes HS game on October 3, I live an hour from BHS and when I played high school ball from 89-92, they couldn't buy a win. Now they are the Greenville/S'burg media's wet dream. xrolleyesx

ESPN broadcasting high school football is a waste of time, and its not good for the players either. They need to worry about graduating and going to college, and not getting into the NFL right away. The NBA made a new rule specifically for that, and now ESPN is broadcasting high school football games? Didn't they learn anything the first time around?

Not entirely ESPN. Fox Sports also showcases a number of high school games, nationally.

I don't mind the high school games being telecast on national TV, if the two teams competing are rivals from the same state. I don't think they should fly the kids across the country to play.

What's unfair is ESPN gets the gate.

Byrnes is also ranked anywhere from #1-5 in the country this year, depending on which rankings you go by.

I remember reading there were 5 schools from South Carolina ranked in Top 100. Not bad for such a small state.

I remember there was a lot of talk about that a couple of years ago the last time ESPN came to Tampa.

I agree with this to an extent. I think watching Odessa and Midland TX play would be enjoyable... sort of a "Friday Night Lights" thing... I think there is a market for a handful of showcases among historic HS rivalries... but a national game between teams from different states and regions... no

I agree fully. We wonder why we have developed young athletes who are 'head cases'. This is a major symptom. Feeding egos is all this is...of course, we've sold out integrity for money a long time ago.

Totally meaningless. Absolutely no way you can, in any way, objectively compare the thousands of high schools who play football in the country. This is nothing more than ego massaging. I feel sorry for those who actually think these things mean anything.
