They have 48 hours to work out a trade with San Diego though its unlikely.

The reason for filing the claim was likely just to block the Rays or Angels from getting him.

Unless the Padres just want to dump the salary and Boston has no problems with the $9 2009 contract ballooning to $11 as per Giles contract.

2009 is an option, theres virtually no chance the Sox would pick it up.

I don't know what to think about this.

It is his right to block the deal, but it's ashamed that he doesn't want to go to a winner.

he said he didnt want to be away from his kids and while it is summer and he could bring his family and enroll them in school in Boston he knew the Sox werent likely to pick up his option so another move would be needed in November.

I can respect his reasons and its not often today a player turns down money for anything.
