How can Michigan not be #1. They have more wins than anybody in the history of college football. They taught Notre Dame how to play the game (FACT). They have drawn over 100,000 for every game since the '70s to put them behind Nebraska & USC is ridiculous.

Probably all those Rose Bowl losses in the 70's and 80's. Frankly, the Big 10 didn't look all that great during that span when the Pac-10 owned them in the Rose Bowl.

Remember the old joke.
Why don't the players on the Big Ten teams eat breakfast?
They always lose their bowls.

I just checked out the list. There a few teams in the list of 50 I have to question, such as NC State. However, my vote for the biggest fraud on the list is Cal! Sure, they had a great program in the first half of the 20th Century, but since the mid -50's, the program has been mediocre at best. The Golden Bears have a .457 Winning percentage since 1950! They've had the occasional good team that was never quite good enough to go to the Rose Bowl. Frankly, Jeff Tedford has begun their first sustained period of success in forever! The biggest joke is Cal being #27 on the list!!!! If they're going to be on it, they should be in the bottom 5!
The dumbest criteria is "Mascot Ferocity." A lot of those programs have changed their mascot name, such as Stanford and Syracuse.

A friend of mine in college grew up in Wisconsin and was a Michigan fan (remember kids, the Badgers SUCKED in the 70's and 80's). He told me that after every Michigan loss in the Rose Bowl, he'd cry and ask his father when Bo Schembeckler would win a Rose Bowl.
His father would simply reply: "Not in our lifetime son, not in our lifetime."

I don't know what you were reading, but I counted 8 SEC teams in the Top 50:
#4: Alabama
#13: Tennessee
#17: LSU
#18: Georgia
#21: Auburn
#25: Florida
#26: Mississppi
#32: Arkansas
Out of the 12 SEC schools the only ones not mentioned were South Carolina, Kentuky, Vanderbilt, and Mississippi State.
