the Bobcats broke their first huddle of the 2008 season, they went out yelling, "BIG SKY CHAMPS!!!"
Bobby Daly also put on about 8-10 pounds. I talked to him before this practice, and he said he's in the best shape of his life. I won't disagree.
Mark Iddins is still taking the first snaps with the first team, no surprise there, but it's evenly split total reps wise 1,2,3 Iddins along with Cody Kempt, and Mark Desin.
Several players got a good deal bigger compared to last year - and there's one thing in common with all of the ones I specifically noticed. Junior Captain Dane Fletcher looks like he's added about 10-15 pounds -- which was definitely necessary (just so long as he's kept his speed up). Dane led the Big Sky in tackles for loss last year, and is a preseason 1st Team All-Conference selection this year. Always good to see a Bozeman High grad doing well in hometown Blue and Gold.

“We’re looking at some ways to spread things out,” Ash said under a cloudless sky. “But we still have our tight ends out on the field a lot. It’s going to be a combination.”

While Ash gave the Bobcats thumbs up after one practice - "I liked the tempo, I liked the pace," he said - he was particularly pleased with a pair of new guys. "I liked how (quarterbacks) Mark Iddins and Cody Kempt played," Ash said. "It's only one practice, but they showed that they are very coachable and that they learn fast and apply what they learn well."

Bobcat coach Rob Ash likes his teams to play fast, and he was especially pleased after Tuesday's second practice of the fall. "The defense had a good day (Tuesday)," he said. "They really played fast, with good tempo. Now, we're only in helmets, but I thought they looked good. The offense looked good, too, especially in seven-on-seven, but they were a little sloppy in the (11-on-11) team period."

"It's a new beginning," Mason said after MSU's practice on Tuesday, the Bobcats' second practice of fall camp. Mason returned to Bobcat camp this fall wearing number three.
"I felt I let my teammates down by gaining over 30 pounds the summer between my freshman and my sophomore year," he said. "I felt like I needed a new identity to help the team, and not be the old (number) 25 I used to be."
