UC Davis' J.T. O'Sullivan & 49ers

For the past couple of days, former UC Davis quarterback J.T. O'Sullivan is finally getting some reps in Martz' offense at San Francisco. Sully does not figure to start for SF this year in light they are going to crash and burn with Alex Smith, but perhaps if he can keep his game as elevated as it has been the past year, he could figure into the starting lineup by mid-season.

Martz loves him too. J.T. learned the majority of his system in about 60 days, something that takes most QB's a whole year according to Martz. Could this be the fact that J.T. has had to journey and learn a ton of new systems each year for the last 7? Or maybe being under Bob Biggs in the pass happy, psycho-complex UC Davis offense set the tone. Either way, I hope Sully manages to blossom with Martz and get a REAL shot to play and get comfortable on gameday.

Looks like J.T. O'Sullivan will be the starting QB for the 49'ers. He was a fantastic QB to watch at UC Davis and deserves a shot.

Wow, there are so many comments at SF Gate with that article, think it's a touchy subject! First they all hate Alex Smith, then somebody does a legit job in preseason and they all think he sucks. Friggin' 49er fans...

Hey let them hate. And when J.T. does good and brings success to that team (and the good publicity to your school) then we'll see where they stand.


And I wish the Saints never would have let him go anyway. I know this counts for ZERO but whatever year it was Brooks, Bouman, and O'Sullivan, I bumped JT up to first string and played a few years with him as my franchise QB.

Anyway, I wish the young man a lot of prosperous years as a starter. He's the kind of guy you can't help but love. Toil around for years and finally get that shot.

JT has to be the starter. I would have liked to see him play a little longer tonight against the Bears, but he only had 1 incompletion in a little over a quarter. Smith is getting his first shot with the first string tonight, and he's not doing anything out of the ordinary yet.

"Uhhh.....yeah...."

"Dude I was watching the 49ers game last night and JT O'Sullivan LIT the Bears defense up! And I remembered you saying that all them years ago and was like check out Hood!"

*modest laughter* "Yeah well....Brooks sucked."

"Anyway dude and I remembered you saying Alex Smith was going to suck and you were right about that too!"

"uhhhh.....right..."

"Hey what happened to that one guy that lined up under the wrong lineman and got run over by the Titans mascot?"

"Oh, MacPhearson...he's in the Arena league now. I thought he woulda been huge too but I guess I was wrong."

3 picks vs. New England yesterday in the "Crab Bowl", 3 TDs as well...Lost 30-21. In JT's defense there were a few dropped balls, and the 49er defense couldn't stop the run, AT ALL.

I think JT is starting to get worn by all the hits...shouldn't be any easier as they host the Eagles next week and then are on the road against the NY Giants.
