How long was this going to take before it was discovered? Great job, China. It's on -- we know it is. Your going to try to cheat, probably have a few dopers, a few under-aged competitors, doing what it takes to top the United States. No problem...
BEIJING -- Two female Chinese gymnasts, including a gold-medal favorite, might be too young to participate in the upcoming Beijing Olympics.
Several online records and reports show He Kexin, the host nation's top competitor on uneven bars, and Jiang Yuyuan might not yet be 16, the minimum age for Olympic eligibility. Both were chosen for China's team last week.
On the Web site of the Chengdu Sports Bureau -- Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province in southwest China -- a file dated January 2006 shows He Kexin as being born Jan. 1, 1994.

Two things...
1- Since when is the minimum age for female gymnasts 16? Why do I seem to remember 14 and 15 year olds in previous games? Gymnasts at age 20 are practically obsolete, I know there have been multi year Olympians. Odd.
2- Whats S/E's deal with China? I know he went there. Did he get married over there? Is that why he is blindly defending China on all fronts lately? Odd.

I think they recently raised the age
HBO recently did a story about the "dark side" of women's gymnastics, and talked about how it could be physically and psychologically damaging to girls that young to have to prepare in the way you need to for the Olympics
Not sure if the two are related, but it wouldn't surprise me

Well if it's new, I like the rule. Wonder if they'll do it for figure skating?

Didn't Roy Jones lose to a Chink in one of the Olympics years ago? what a joke he banged that guy out, and they gave the decision to the home town boy, Roy just sat in the ring even after the lights went out.
Boxing is a joke in the Olympics. But then again it pretty much is everywhere. Any sport with judges is going to be terrible.

I don't remember that. I do remember when Ray "Boom Boom"
Mancini killed a South Korean fighter named Duk Koo Kim in 1982.

I watched that fight, it was unbelievable that the judges could give it to the South Korean. As I recall the two judges who voted for Jones were from Eastern Bloc countries. It was the "Western" judges that screwed him.
The fight is on youtube if you haven't seen it.

What about the US. We're the biggest dopers of all.
The U.S. 4x400m relay team that won gold at the Sydney Games in 2000 have been stripped of their medals after Antonio Pettigrew admitted to doping, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) said on Saturday.
It was the sixth American medal from the Sydney Games lost to doping in the past eight months after U.S. sprinter Marion Jones was stripped of her five medals due to her doping confession last year.

I've lost interest in the 'spectacle' for years now because of the jingoism that surrounds the event. I'll check in for some track and field, and maybe some swimming, but that's it. Don't even bother with the 'judging' sports. xsmhx

They should put a statute of limitations on rescinding medals from innocent relay team members. Taking a medal from a guilty individual is fine, but striping the teammates 8 years after the fact seems silly IMO.
