The Red Sox front office may have gone from looking for relief pitching to working to land a power hitting outfielder leading up to the trade deadline.

Theo Epstein will likely spend the next six days truign to aquire Jason Bay or Matt Holliday. If they suceed expect Manny Ramirez to be placed on waivers in early August.

Red Sox ownership, manager and general manager we're all in a closed door meeting last night and no ones talking, all we know is the meeting occured after Manny Ramirez pulled himself from the lineup for the second consecutive game and it is now likely at some point in 2008 Ramirez will have played his final game for Boston.

he has two options... before yesterday they were undecided on picking uop the first, the decision is likely made now.

The Providence Journal is reporting if Ramirez refuses to play today the Sox are prepared to suspend him.

I'm done with Manny. Friggin' crybaby.

He couldn't ask for a better situation than Boston. Francona is laid back, and let's Manny be Manny. He let's the guys play, treats everyone fairly, and it's a veteran clubhouse.

Manny pushes crap over the line, picks fights and now he doesn't want to play team ball.

I'm tired of defending him. Trade his a$$ or release him, I could care less.

And it's becoming clear that the career of yet another of Boston's greatest players is coming to a strained and difficult conclusion with the Red Sox and their fans.

Add Manny Ramirez to the list of players who went from revered Red Sox to anathema.

A beloved Yankee is a Yankee for life, forever embraced by the New York faithful. A beloved Red Sox player is more like a wife of Henry VIII -- loved for the moment, but a bad ending awaits.

Nomar, Boggs, Clemens ... and even Fisk, before the rehabilitation.

Most of the players you name are from yesteryear. It's true you oldtimers were nicer to your stars....;)

They won't be the same team sans Manny. That lineup loses a lot when he doesn't play. Lots of teams could use his bat, though. Here's to seeing more of Coco Crisp...

We'll see what happens with 'tek and Pedroia

I think they'll sour on Ortiz.
much like Yankee fans did to ol pornstache

modern fans are a finnicky lot

Loyal fans? Look at MN who gave Torrii Hunter a 5 minute standing ovation upon his return. Or St. Louis who gave Jim Edmonds an amazing reception.

It's all about circumstances. Sox fans hate Clemens for cause... he was letting himself go... not trying... then he left, went to Toronto... started juicing... then went to the yankees... and mouthed off the whole way.

boggs too, saying he'd go to the hall as a Ray... bush league

manny? the guys too much of a diva for my tastes... i dont know how they dealt with him for this long

This is a first, views of my blog have skyrocketed today without me actually advertising a post.

I wrote earlier about what the Sox could do at the deadline and now it's linked at one of the most prominant trade rumor sites.

Damon who said and I quote: "I will never play for the Yankees" xeyebrowx 6 months later signs with the Yankees...

A-Rod... who you yourself called a number of names and implied his character was sketchy (which everybody already knows)
in fact Joe - you were beside yourself with anger and outrage towards A-Rod

Knob-boy got exactly what was coming to him.

It takes a lot to make MN fans that mad. The ***** he was throwing before he left was pretty outrageous. That, combined with student discount ticket night, combined with a couple of big bar specials nearby that night... combined with dollar hot dogs, combined with his yips moving him to left field...

What are you talking about? MN fans were good and loyal fans, and welcomed Knobby back with open arms as if he were the Prodigal Son.

You make it sound as if the fans pelted him with insults and objects thrown from the stands, to the point that he had to leave the game.

If the Sox waive Ramirez, who grabs him?

If he falls all the way to the Yankees, there's a huge chance Prince Hal and Hank grab him ... and extend his options.

If I may add my two cents.

Usually beer is the choice, then saki.

My wife hates saki and beer. So she goes for the wines.

EXCEPT for tuna, which is like eating red meat, she prefers the soft, dry whites, preferably a Chardonnay or Pinot Blanc (American or Australian) with sushi.

you wouldnt have a chance to get him off waivers cause NY or TB would grab him in a heartbeat.... The more likely course is a trade and the Mets have expressed interest in the past, so it could end up a bidding war between NYM and Phil but time is running down so we'll see.

Well, with the way waivers work, the Phillies would get a shot at Manny before NY or TB could. It's the 20 some teams that come before the Phils that would have more of a say in the matter.

The order of who gets first shot is last to first in same league as player (So thye AL) then its last to first in the other league (the NL) So NYY and TB would have the chance before any NL team to take him.
