Nothing is "over" when there are people who hold it dear to their hearts...(whatever it might be)
The South is extremely independent minded when it comes to the idea of States Rights...

and as long as they have that "States Rights" torch burning... independence will be a noticeable trait of the South and Southern politics

(Just an observation) xpeacex Don't shoot the messenger xwhistlex

Cleeets, you are right.

And is there anything wrong with that ? Hell NO !!!!

I have to put up with the rights of others I do Not agree with, so the right of the State's independence is OK with me. Thats why I don't live in a state like VT or california.

I agree and I am one of those. Proud supporter of the 10th Amendment. State sovereignty is guaranteed*. xnodx

Had the south and south carolina never threaten to secede from the union, who knows what Lincoln would've have imposed on the citizens of the u.s. The south may have surrended but their stance helped secure that states still have significant rights and voiced together they keep the federal government in their place.. xnonox

One recent example is the this national i.d. card they want to force on all states.. Most states of course are againest it and Louisiana has already passed legislation againest it.
