I heard on the radio that the MAC sent and invatation to WKU but they may turn it down for the Missouri Valley. If they want to stay IAA then the Valley would be great for basketball since they got 3 bids last year.

MAC gossip with WKU was crazy during the summer but has since died off and pretty much everyone has accepted that the MAC doesn't want us.

ok da_bears, you have made a total of two posts on here, both with some pretty crazy rumors.

It is obvious to anyone who reads the newspaper articles that WKU wants into the MAC... I don't see WKU turning the MAC down. I know with almost certainty that WKU has NOT received an invite to the MAC.

WKU wants in the MAC. IF WKU cannot get into the MAC, then I might see WKU going to the MVC and remaining I-AA.

Let me also add, it pretty common knowledge that the MVC is not interested in expanding.

I'd be interested in knowing what radio station/program is stating this... I'd like to follow up with the personality.

I really wish the MVC would accept Western Kentucky. That would make the league so much stronger, especially in basketball. WKU would fight UNI, SIU and Creighton for top honors and you might get to see four MVC teams in the Big Dance. That would be amazing.

Plus, it would be nice to try and change the Gateway into the MVC. It would be nice if these schools could just have one conference to call home. It would make rivalries stronger and more national recognition in my opinion.

I don't disagree. I'd love to be in the MVC (even though I cannot stand Evansville).

Evansville is not really a help to us as of lately, we can boot them and add WKU. :D

I'd love to see e-ville booted. I also would like to see these 6 gateway teams start up a MVC football confrence. UNI, MS, ILS, SIU,and IN ST are already in the MVC, then add in WKU

You guys would really bring some basketball tradion and you guys deserve a better confrence for basketball.

As for me, I want to stay in the Gateway for FB and SunBelt for BB. Not that I really care all that much for BB but the closer to 1-A we are the better I like it. MVC would be a step backward.

What pipe have you been smoking crack out of? Are you seriously insinuating that the Sun Belt is a better conference than the MVC, please explain your thoughts with a little detail, by my calculations the only sport that even matters other than football is probably mens basketball, if this is the case the MVC mops up the Sun Belt with out question.

Well I am the Sun Belt fan here and I have excellent relationships around the league. That said WKU plays it close to the vest and they are hard to read (have a bit of a rep for being hard to get along with as a result).

With that caveat I feel VERY certain that WKU would lose all interest in I-A football if the Missouri Valley extended an offer.

Based on what my people tell me, the MAC has not offered WKU and right now is not likely to offer WKU despite the fact the MAC commissioner would like to add them.

The MAC revenue share is currently a declining balance because its been a bit since they had multi-bids or an NCAA Tournament win. There is some concern that adding WKU would mean another mouth to feed without added revenue. There is some concern about the future of Temple football (drew sub 10,000 for 2 MAC opponents this year). If Temple gives up on football after the MAC expands with WKU that would make the MAC 13 for football and basketball, an awkward alignment. Lastly there is opposition to extending a bid to a school that has not gotten its ducks in a row for I-A football. WKU would have to be in transition and have everything lined up for I-A to get support of those schools.

The MoValley offers WKU what it desires. An even better basketball league and they would leap at an offer and forget I-A ball if the MoValley would just invite them.

This is crazy talk. By what measure is the SunBelt better than the MVC in BB? While you are thinking about it try looking at something impartial like the Sagarin conference ratings from last year. MVC = #7 in the country and SunBelt = #14.

The Toppers have a better chance of winning the Sunbelt in basketball and getting the automatic conference bid than they would in the Valley. That may be their motivation for maintaining the status quo. This is not to say that they would not be competitive in the Valley. They would be a good fit in many ways. WKU and Western Illinois are the only Gateway teams who are not also MVC members. With ten members currently, I doubt the MVC is interested in adding any new members. Any expansion would probably lead to a divisional set up to keep the schedules from becoming unwieldy. The only way I would see any interest in adding a new team would be if one of the current members left for some reason.

I have to disagree. Everything I've read/heard says WKU wants I-A. I've even heard it said we are not interested in MVC membership because of I-A desires.

But like you said, they are tough to read sometimes. But thats the vibe and word in Bowling Green.

My reasoning is that I want 1-A FB over better BB, because (as stated earlier) I care more about FB than BB. And even if we stay in the SB it is 1-A, the MVC is nowhere near.

I have said it before & will say it again -- BB wags the dog at WKU. I-A FB makes no sense at WKU what so ever.. HOWEVER, finding a 2 bid league for BB is what most of this nonsense is about.

YSU is also not a member of the MVC. We are in the Horizon League for sports other than FB.

And most of the multi-bid leagues are I-A football leagues. WKU isn't going to get in the WCC since they aren't in the west and aren't a private school. They aren't going to get in the A-10 which is packed to the gills full of members.

MoValley is the only multi-bid league that is a viable option except for the problem that they don't look to be expanding. That leaves the MAC which hasn't been a multi in several years but they at least have been hanging around somewhat close, but require I-A membership.

That may well be. When it comes to WKU, guessing what's next depends on hunches.

Most, not ALL. MAC would be expensive and dangerous because of poor FB attendance. 15k in FB is not attainable year after year. MAC doesn't bring FB crowds out of state.

MVC makes most sense. Agree

WKU Boys soccer is the MVC, Football in the Gateway and everyone else is the Sunbelt

Sorry, Killer. You're completely whacked here.

Killtoppers, the MVC is the better conference. Hands down.

The MVC is gonna make some serious noise this year for men's basketball. Creighton and UNI could make a serious run at the Big Dance, and Southern Illinois isn't to be ignored either. I see at least two if not three again making the Tournament. I think this is the year people start viewing the MVC on the same level with the MAC and C-USA as far as basketball is concerned.
