Apparently Manny Ramirez was fined a six figure amount to be donated to charity for him actions in Houston when he shoved the teams travel secratary.
Bob Lobel who this morning broke the story on the fine also says there's a perception that a week after the incident in Houston, Ramirez intentionally took three strikes in a pinch hitting appearance against the Yankees.
Manny told Rob Bradford of the Boston Herald during the all star break that he wants to remain in Boston beyond this season but if the team doesn't exercise the first of his options he will leave.
Manny had other things to say and the following day Red Sox owner John Henry responded to Bradford in an email saying he found Manny's comments offensive.
This certainly could be the begining of the end for Manny in Boston as the Sox could look to sign a free agent or make a trade to replace him this offseason.
The FA market for OFs is very light with Pat Burrell being the highlight, he has power but his average is low, though he does have a very good OBP which the Red Sox look at.
Boston could make a run at Mark Teixeira either before the trade or this offseason and use him at first and move Youkilis to LF. Boston could also look to trade for a more traditional power hitting OF like Matt Holliday, thou8gh some are skeptical about his hitting numbers if playing outside of Colorado.
