And this is why new blood has come in and the tennis programs at TSU are no longer around...Charles McClelland is pulling out the hammer and nails.

The NCAA text: http://www.ncaa.org/wps/ncaa?ContentID=33511

NCAA docks TSU with probation, tennis suspensions

The NCAA has put Texas Southern on four years of athletic probation for violations in softball and tennis and suspended the men's and women's tennis teams.

Softball and tennis wins have been forfeited.

Here is an excerpt from the NCAA announcement:

"The case involves the former head coaches in those sports committing violations that went undetected by the university. The violations include impermissible benefits and financial aid, unethical conduct and lack of institutional control.

Updated article...and as I said on SWAC Page...

I really like Charles McClelland's wording in this one after the NCAA handed out the penalties to Texas Southern. This was one of the clouds hanging over the program's head and now it's moved on and the sun is peaking out.

A deal with the Dynamo would be huge for stadium purposes. Having an updated web site for the first time in two years would be a noticeable upgrade. We'll see what other things are in the fold for the Tigers, but Charles looks to the future and he even has a compliance consultant showing the program some direction so they can continue to improve.

The biggest penalties don't even impact the school, but those individuals who really the guilty parties here -- the coaches. The tennis coach's acts were down right despicable!

Still waiting for the sleeping giant to awake...this program has no reason not to be near the top of the SWAC. Only thing lacking is facilities and a few staffing positions if the Dynamo and web site come through. Trust me, when that sleeping giant awakes and things are rolling on Cleburne, they'll revert back to where every institution not named Texas St-San Marcos stands.

McClelland, who served as Prairie View A&M's athletic director for the last seven years, was named to the position April 10. McClelland said he sees the NCAA's ruling as the end of a turbulent period at the school.

"I think this really closed the chapter on all of the old, negative issues that were hanging out," he said. "We can deal with these, and we're moving on into our new leadership. We have a new president (John Rudley), a new athletic director, and even the coaches in those programs are new. We're looking at it as an opportunity to strengthen our program and move forward."
