Watching the CHW and LAA game a long ball hit to right field was grabbed by a fan. Watching the replay the ball would have never gone over the wall. The Angels were given a run because of this.

What should MLB do about fans that do this? Throw them out of the game? Fine them? Something has to be done to keep this from happening but what?

you cant fine them. they aren't breaking any laws. i think the public ridicule and hatred is waaay more than enough. i mean, that cubs fan from a few years back was getting like several death threats a day. id be more than willing to bet he doesnt live in chi-town anymore nor will ever attend a cubs game ever again. justice = served, IMHO.

Regardless of the call on the field, if replay shows that the fan interfered with a ball in play, he should be ejected from the stadium and have the ball confisicated. That says that MLB will not tolerate this from fans.

Remember that kid about 10 years ago at Yankee Stadium who's interference gave Jeter a HR? I had no problem w/ the blown call. What pissed me off was the next game. The kid was given the "red carpet" treatment and had a box-seat!!!!! If the ump had made the correct call, not only would Jeter have been out, the kid would have been ejected! Whoever it was that glorified the kid's actions was a real jacka$$!

What Steve Bartman did in Wrigley two years ago is not the same as what blackfordpu is talking about. Bartman's ball was over the wall in the stands, thus it's fair game for fans. If the ball is over the field of play, then any fan interfering will be ejected and the batter ruled out, according to MLB rules.

Is that a current rule? If so the umps really blew that call. They gave the batter a ground rule double and let the runner from second score.

It's been a rule for years. Sadly, sometimes the umps blow the call, such as the Yanks-Orioles playoff game in the mid-90's.

I'm tired of hearing about that blown call.

Everyone who dislikes the Yankees talks about a play in the 7th inning of game one in that series.

No one remembers that the Orioles went home to their home ball park and got blown away in three straight games in games 3, 4, and 5.
