High School -- Troy will be the third Shotwell to play for Cal Poly, following 2006 Buck Buchanan Award winner Kyle, a linebacker, and junior-to-be defensive end Ryan. Troy earned first-team All-Channel League and All-Santa Barbara County honors as a senior at Dos Pueblos High School and also earned team MVP and Ironman awards. On defense he recorded 86 tackles, including 13 sacks and eight other tackles for lost yardage. As a tight end Troy caught 13 passes for 226 yards and one touchdown, leading the Chargers to a 7-4 mark and a CIF-Southern Section playoff berth. Troy played in the 37th Annual Kiwanis All-Star Football Classic at La Playa Stadium in Santa Barbara, recording a pair of sacks en route to game MVP honors.
