Things you love or used to love about your stadium.

I was thinking about the construction work being done on our stadium and I realized that our team entrance will change. That caused me to think about some things I love about Mumford stadium. Here are a few:

Seeing the visiting team enter the field from under the home stands.
Hearing the band play the fight song after a touchdown.
Being on the track as a kid watching the games. I used to love being that close to the action.
Going on the field after the game to celebrate with the team. (I don't know if they still do this)
Watching visiting fans and bands try to squeeze into the northeast corner of the stadium.
Hearing the old man behind me yell "Chunk that ball" (I really miss him)
Hearing the clank of bottles falling on the concrete.

What are some things you love or used to love about your stadium?

Scoreboard that gave yardage stats (being replace this year).
How flat it is all around it so you can see the stadium from far away.

Towson's Old Minnegan Stadium had the best natural grass field I have ever played on.

Best non football memory - Watching the Towson Tiger mascot get in a fight with the Bucknell Bison and ripping one of its horns off.

I love that they put a bronze bust of Erk Russell at the point where the players go on the field so that they can rub that bald head.

I love seeing the kids playing on the grass banks. This may go away at some time in the future, but it will probably be a while.

I love the flag pole that is used exclusively for national championship banners.

I loved the video screen when we finally got one; now, time for an upgrade.

...and the fact that we tailgate on the stadium grounds, which means we can drink up until about 5 minutes before kickoff and cruise back to the tailgate for a refill at halftime (which is why I have 4 season tix instead of just 2).

UVA has a field view similar to this. I found it hard to watch a football game like that. I was also at VaTech's student section and also found it hard to watch a football match... Stupid Tech fans

What I like about the Fargodome... The main reason that I like the Fargodome is that due to the nice weather in the dome, my daughter has started to become a real football fan. Since she hates the cold and rain this wouldn't have happened. Since she likes to fish and now likes football, all I have to do is get her interested in deer hunting and my job will be done. She is only 11, so I have about 8 or nine years to win her over.

My take on domes, from watching UD beat #1-ranked, undefeated UNI in the quarters last season: Noise is a factor on the first drive. You need to adjust using hand signals and timing. You also need to get a score early to settle the home crowd down a little. If you fail to score fairly early, the noise can continue to be a problem. The much bigger factor in a dome, especially if you are a cold-weather outdoor stadium team is conditioning. You've been playing in freezing, windy, foul weather games in Nov/Dec and then you're all of a sudden in a sweaty, packed house.

Formula: Hydrate, practice indoors, hydrate, crank the noise at practice, hydrate, have no fear, hydrate, adjust to noise, hydrate, strike early, hydrate, beat dome team, have a beer, thank conference rival Villanova for letting you use their film facility so you can beat another Gateway team the following week

My earliest remembrances of Kidd Brewer Stadium are those of a seven- or eight-year-old, so...

I miss the yellow "Go Apps, Go" cups. I scavenged the stands after games and usually brought home a dozen or more.

I miss the days when every Saturday was Black Saturday. I still refuse to wear anything but black to an ASU game.

I miss the old, black-bearded Yosef. I wouldn't say I dislike the new one, with the large gray tentacles jutting out of his face. I certainly don't want to see a human mascot (Yosef's costume isn't sufficiently different from typical Boone attire, so it doesn't make sense). I just miss the old, pre-2000 one.

I miss learning how to watch a football game by watching my dad. By my recollection, he got more vocally excited about ASU football than anything else in the world.

I miss the days when everyone was invited onto the field after games. There's something very fascinating to a little boy about running around on a rubber track and bright green artificial grass.

I miss working the sidelines, as I (rarely) did when I was a student and an aspiring journalist.

I love the view of campus/town from the "APP" side of the stands, particularly in the fall. I especially like the prominence of the steeple at First Baptist Boone, since I used to live in that building.

Andy Kerr in the fall (September/October) is idyllic and the renovations have not changed that character. The colors and the hills of the Chenango Valley surrounding the ball park give it a very old-school atmosphere.

Kegs were fun back in the day at UD. I'll echo the other comments about Delaware Stadium, although I could care less about the bathroom aspect. The best aspect is the sight lines and steep stands that allow for great views of the game. I also liked the old PA announcer who was there basically my whole life up until a few years ago. It still seems odd to see a game at the stadium without his voice announcing it.

I always wanted to know what it felt like to come out of the tunnel for game time. Unfortunately, I was not blessed with good athletic abilities.

The band is huge, I love going to NFL games, but it has nothing like the atmosphere of college and I think a lot of it is because of the band.
I love the band marching through campus up to the stadium.
I love games when it gets colder in Boone and how small the stadium can feel, like it's such a secret how good it is.

I agree but I miss the old tunnel that was about half the size. Now it seems like players can trickle out but with the old tunnel when they were jumping around inside of it they were shaking the whole thing. That was pretty cool. I love watching the video before the team runs out and right before they take the field Sean Connery on the video board "Welcome to the Rock" quote as the band strikes into Hi Hi Yikes. I think it's cool when we have the skydivers fly in. I miss being able to get a good handicapped seat for my brother but conversely am glad the stadium is full. And I love watching the Mountaineers warm up when the WR & DB and specialists come over to greet the Lineman when they take the field to warm up. Plus the stretches when the captains yell out to the rest of the players in their position and then the responses.

My dad still does this, even after they put the hedges around the field. We used to stand on the sidelines with the players and coaches. I even got a Southern Football shirt from Chris Scott when he first started coaching there.
Another thing I love is driving over the hump (bridge) and seeing the stadium and all the cars in the lots tailgating.
I don't miss those concrete bleachers. Thank God for stadium seats.

The thing I really love about Albany's "stadium" is that they are getting ready to tear it dowrn.

Heery Int Is finishing up their study and they should be complete with their analysis by the time school starts. There will be a new facility in one way shape or form IMHO by the time Old Dominion and Georgia St get up to speed. Either it is a brand new state of the art monster or BIG renovations to our current facility (if you can call it that) someting new will be there so teams from the CAA can come play us in Albany. People in the know are very confident that the State will come through for them this year on some level.

My greatest memeories of our facility came as a player. In Sept. the weather was warm and the hill would be filled with fans. We wouldl literally get 6-7K (I am serious) for a DIII game. During a timeout once when we were playing Ithaca, they actually did the wave. Now at the time I thought to myself standing in the huddle "man they take football very seriously here at Albany(it felt like Delaware or Montana scenrio)...LOLOLOLOLOL only years later did someone tell me, " the crowds were so big back then because the drinking age was 18 and they allowed kegs at the games."SO EVEY FROSH WHO WAS AWAY FOR THE FIRST TIME FROM HOME COULD DRINK AT GAMES...LOLOLOOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL. I loved it even though I learned the truth. It was great while it lasted.

1. The small size. Feels like you're at a game with 6,000 of your friends.

2. Watching the famous speech at Sterling from "Braveheart," followed by the firing of a cannon and the team running onto the field.

3. This is less about our stadium and more the game atmosphere: We don't have a marching band. What we do have is a student pep band. When other schools bring their bands to Bailey and they start playing, our guys turn up the amps on their electric guitars and drown them out.

The FargoDome (NDSU) has nothing but great sight lines... no bad seats. Also like the video boards.

I still have a soft spot for our old stadium (Dacotah) because the students and general admission fans mixed together in huge wooden bleachers on one side of the field. If you kicked back with your heel, it would go "BOOM" against the board behind you. When 8000 people stood up and started kicking at the same time, it sounded like a bison stampede... really an amazingly loud noise that could drown out F-4s doing low altitude flyovers.

The smell of peppermint schnapps and hot chocolate, the tinkle of whisky bottles hitting the ground, the taste of pizza by the slice that went from molten to frozen solid in about 30 seconds, the feel of the north wind on your frozen face, and the sight of a Bison back breaking a long run... a delight to all the senses (unless you think fashion is one of the senses :) ) *sniff*

This past year I was glad to see they final got Yosef's clothing back in order and he looks buff and mean. I don't know why but there was while there when every game nothing was tucked in properly and he was all lumpy, like he just come from a quicky in the broom closet.

Also, the times this year when he came out on the Harley were pretty sweet though the bike could have been louder. I think this year Yosef needs to ride in on a custom chopper to every game. Then at the end of the season all the players and coaches sign it and they auction it off for charity. I might have to write a letter to good ole' Kenny P with that suggestion, he'd be all over that.

For some reason I miss old black and gold WV bug that was alwats parked out in front of the stadium. However, the last year I remember it being there was 2004 and we all know what has happened since then so...

As the UNI mascot for four years up until this year, I got a pretty intimate look at the UNI-Dome from all angles. A few of my favorites:
Homecoming 2007- TC traditionally rides a golf cart around the outside of the stadium to different tailgates. Coming in from that on homecoming day, about an hour and fifteen minutes before gametime, I walked in the west side of the dome and on the east side was a jam-packed student section. Climbing up on the drum major's ladder and waving a UNI flag while the entire student section was screaming and twirling their Panther towels was something that I'll never forget.
Hells Bells- My favorite introduction over the past 4 years with AC/DC playing in the background- "Ladies and Gentlemen, a ferocious predator has been seen stalking the nation carrying a number one ranking. We caution you to watch for the Cat." Still gives me goosebumps to think of how nuts the crowd goes when they hear that number one.
Some call our concourse too small. I think it is nice and intimate. The smell of popcorn, dome-dogs, and pizza come together for the perfect combination in those halls.
"Weather conditions at kickoff- Outside, 14 degrees with winds out of the northwest at 25 mph, wind chill of 6 degrees. Inside, 72 degrees, no wind, welcome to the dome!"
And crucial 3rd and 4th downs when the Panthers are on defense, I've been to Kinnick, Jack Trice, Darryl Royal, and the Sea of Red, and I've never heard a crowd get as loud as 17,000 screaming people inside of a metal and concrete confinement. Beautiful.

NDSU started playing in the Fargodome in 1993.
