I have not seen a period of rain like this ----- maybe ever.
A football booster group is trying to raise funds for a "field turf" surface for the stadium and practice field. UMass had to practice on three different places in preseason training camp because the practice field was wet.
Don't look like the state legislature will ever help...
Will Delaware's field be ready for JMU (who seem to be on the road trip from hell) next week?

After watching a replay of the game this morning I find it hard to believe that the UD turf could be much worse than the field at UMass.

Their field was torn up because it sucked... our field was flooded and became muddy as the game progressed... what can you do with all that rain.

It stinks, I don't care what other teams get. 4500 to see two of the top teams in the A10 play is pitiful in Amherst. I'm disappointed more than condesending umassfan. I like when A10 stadiums are full.

I do too and it prob would have been over 10,000 on a non rainy day... in our two games where it didnt rain we had over 10,000 fans per so quit your bitchin.

You're just trying to start trouble. Mass. just lifted a state of emergency (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,172407,00.html)
In my home state of New Hampshire, six people were killed in Alford, NH last saturday. The flood was so bad in Alford, it cut channels 70 feet deep. People are still missing.
On my drive down to Amherst, I had to dodge closed streets and closed routes because of flooding. Under the circumstances, I think 4500 brave UMass and JMU fans deserve some credit...

How many actually came to the UD-Hofstra game?
According to the A10 site-22,030
In all honesty,I think 4500 was all that could be expected.Hard for people not in the area to realise just how bad the weather has been in the northeast. I have family in New Hampshire and they are telling me this has been a rain of biblical proportions.

I'd have to guess about 12-15k. I wasn't there, but it wasn't because of rain that I wasn't there.

I was there 89 and 12 -15K is generous. For the Record UMASS 74 flood conditions in the Pa. NJ. and DE. areas were equally bad with the Delaware River overflowing it's banks in all 3 states along with the streams and rivers that flow into the Delaware and Suquehenna. However, I'm with 89 on the issue of attendance for big games at UMASS. This game probably decides the A-10 auto bid and one would hope more would come out.
The attendance for the Delaware - Umass game in '04 was also very disappointing and the weather was perfect (the game at that stage in the season appeared to be an equally huge). I heard that in good weather many in Mass. would rather watch the leaves change and I guess that is an attitude I don't get.

The major north-south interstate highway - I-91 was shut down on saturday due to the water. On saturday morning it was coming down in buckets. UMass still pulled a better attendance mark than the shameful beatdown that the Richmond Spiders administered to UD. Keep things in perspective: UMass: tops of the A10 - UD: fled the Tub and cellar dwelling.

Everyone seems to think this game (Umass vs JMU) is for the A10 Championship, It's far from over. Umass still has to play at Maine, Home to UNH (this will be a HUGE game) at Delaware (A team we just can't seem to beat) at Army, At Hofstra, another huge game. So it's far from over.

Leaving the Boston area for a game in Maine around 5:30 AM, I had my doubts I would even make it to route 95. I went through 3-4 spots where there was at least a foot of water in the road. I saw more cars disabled on the side of the road than driving, and the radio was telling people to stay in the house. Coming home at night I got a call to tell me the main road near my house in RI was flooded out. So, transportation was a little difficult to say the least. You can't really call what we've had here the last week a couple rainy days.
I'm expecting a great crowd in a couple weeks against UNH. Let's hope things dry out and we get some perfect football weather.
