Are they just enclosing the south end zone or are they doing more that we can't see yet?

The project will enclose the north endzone will add seats and a fieldhouse. This is what it will look like completed:

The sad thing here is that now if you ever removed the track the endzone facility is going to be a mile away from the field.

If they removed the track they would dig down 15-16 feet and add seats all the way to within 20-30 ft or so of the sidelines and endzone. That's what most schools do when removing the track.

When is Southern going to get an air-conditioned press box for baseball? Current press box is as big as a porta-potty and hosts the SID who does PA and music and official stats...a bigger facility plus some more $$$ may allow a second person in there instead of allowing media take sunburns on the back of their neck...

My point was that, unlike stands you can't just move the endzone facility up to the field level.

I don't believe we could dig 15 feet down without hitting water, our campus is on the banks of the Mississippi River and during a rise the stadium would likely fill with water.

Southern's baseball press box sits ONE person. The media sit at the top of the stands where they get plenty of sun on their backside. That's just rough.

Of course, SU has what I am told is the best stadium in the SWAC for baseball. Has a lot of unique features, that's for sure and plenty of in-game entertainment (see Frogger on the overpass featuring SU baseball players).

Not a single person who posts on this board claiming to represent SU is in a position to make that claim with any credibility.

As we know you have no credibility what so ever in representing NDSU yet you continue to make remarks (SHSU will not host NDSU and NDSU/UND in the Metrodome) which we know are not representative of the university.

Questions: Why are "some" posters so hung up on whether Southern U. or any other university not named North Dakota State gets FieldTurf or the removal of the track? Are "these" posters salesman of FieldTurf? Do "they" own a construction company that specializes in football fields? xeyebrowx

If Southern officials have made the educated conclusion that FieldTurf and the track's removal aren't the best solutions, based on the needs and limitations of the athletes, university, community, athletes, budget, environment, and alumni, then more power to 'em, regardless of what "some" AGS poster demands.

Lee-Hines (Southern) is a great place to watch a baseball game and has tons of character (and characters such as Po' Ben), but the best venue for baseball in the SWAC (on campus) is Jackson State's new facility. They have Triple-A caliber lighting and one of the best playing surfaces in the south. Seating is plenty adequate and the press box is decent size.

My favorite aspect of Lee-Hines is that the batting cages are located under the overpass, making it without question, the most expensive covered hitting facility in the history of college baseball. Not to mention some pretty good players have taken some hacks under there.

Southern adds RV site near stadium

NEW ORLEANS — In addition to the ongoing expansion of A.W. Mumford Stadium, Southern University President Ralph Slaughter said Thursday, construction also has begun for a new recreational vehicle parking area.

The lot would add 62 RV spots to more than make up for the loss of some parking from the stadium expansion, Slaughter said. The new lot will be across the street from Mumford near the school of nursing.

“We have to have that lot ready before football season starts,” Slaughter said, when asked why parking construction began before notifying the Southern Board of Supervisors on Thursday.

I was just curious. Didn't realize the heat can do that much damage to a facility's track. Guess it's hard to see it with SHSU's track, which is black, compared to the blue that you guys have.

Now, if I really wanted to be negative, I would have brought up the long jump pit...
